What are the responsibilities and job description for the Risk Mgmt Coordinator - Legal Specialist position at Moses Taylor Hospital?
Responsible for assisting Risk Management Manager in administering the risk management program on a day-to-day basis.
Focus for the Risk Management Coordinator - Legal Specialist will be on overseeing the comprehensive claims processes related to legal services and act as primary liaison between corporate risk, campus risk, and associated legal services engaged to support legal cases involving the Regional Hospital of Scranton (campuses of Moses Taylor and Regional Hospital). The role supports efforts related to reducing potential safety, finance and patient problems. Responsibilities include: Coordinates claims submission activities for the defined campuses, develops and maintains an organized system of tracking and reporting potential and received legal claims, analyzes data from within this tracking process for trends and opportunities for improvement, sharing the data as requested with senior administration and corporate partners, maintains follow-up investigations for these events, provides timely notification to defined appropriate parties for any potential liability claims and for current claims, assists legal services with conducting investigations, scheduling depositions, providing policies and chart documents, acting as primary liaison, responsible for maintaining all litigation files, both open and closed, with review and necessary follow-up of all correspondence pertaining to the same.
In addition, supports other duties as assigned within risk management and quality as workload allows.This may span the scope of managing and analyzing risk management data,facilitating systems analysis to promote and improve patient safety, conducting and facilitating risk management educational programs based upon availability and identified needs, and compliance with The Joint Commission's standards relating to risk management and patient safety. Assists in preparing meeting agendas and taking minutes for various meetings that are supported by quality and risk.
Local travel only - attendance at local courts when cases come to trial
Bachelor's degree required. RN licensed to practice nursing preferred. Quality and / or risk management experience (especially in relationship to courtroom and trial preparation) preferred but not required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) required. Excellent customer service skills required. Excellent organizational skills required. High level critical thinking skills and problem resolution skills required. Computer skills with word processing, graphics, presentation tools, and database programs required. Ability to manage multiple projects/priorities and deadlines required. Presentation skills required.
