Boston:
The Motional global headquarters are located at 100 Northern Avenue in Boston, MA. Nestled in the busting Seaport district with sweeping views of Boston Harbor and downtown Boston, the offices are located close to major transit lines and a quick walk to various restaurants and popular attractions.
About the role:
The Application Systems Engineering team collaborates with product managers, subsystem teams, test teams, safety, systems architecture and project management to specify the system expectations. These expectations are a balance of competing issues such as schedule, resources, technology constraints, and product viability. In summary, we take the big picture from the product team and break it down into usable inputs for the subsystem and test teams.
What you will do:
- Analyze the operating domain and stakeholder requirements
- Define use-case scenarios to provide detailed expectations of system behavior
- Create simulation test cases based on use-case scenarios
- Analyze use-case scenarios in order to:
- Identify necessary functions and I/O in the system architecture
- Collaborate with architecture team for refinement
- Specify functional requirements at the system level
- Decompose system level requirements into subsystem requirements
- Review your work products with teams that consume the work product
- Negotiate competing interests from the various teams
- Review test specifications to ensure adequacy
- Analyze test data and provide guidance for the next iteration
Minimum requirement of education and experience:
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field
- 2 years’ experience in owning technical responsibility over a system or subsystem (preferably in the software domain)
Skills required:
- Excellent communication skills; effective in communicating complex concepts and driving resolutions
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Passion for robotics applications and a desire to work in a fast-paced research-powered industrial product development environment

Preferred experience:
- Experience with SQL query
- Experience using Applied Intuition simulation tool suite
- Experience with robotic systems, autonomous systems, and/or Artificial Intelligence
- Experience in a safety-critical product environment
- Experience with high performance computing systems
- Experience with UML, simulation tools such as matlab simulink
- Experience developing software
