What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dog Agent- Dog Trainer position at Motley Zoo's Rock Star Treatment Services?
Job Summary
Motley Zoo Animal Rescue (www.motleyzoo.org) operates in Redmond, WA.
Unlike most rescues, Motley Zoo has a facility- our Mission Center Studio. This is where we host Rock Star Treatment Services where dogs come for training and play time while their families are busy with work and school. This helps provide each dog socialization, companionship, and training so they can become well-balanced, happy pups!
While the benefit to the dogs is immense, proceeds from our services also help Motley Zoo support the more than $15,000/ mo we spend on veterinary bills for our rescue animals!
We seek applicants for our Dog Agent and Dog Training roles.
Both positions require at least 1 year of experience working with dogs and/ or play group management.
For those without previous experience, see below under Entry Level Dog Agent.
Wage will depend on experience level. Both roles have a consistent, flexible schedule for full or part-time work and a regular, hourly wage.
Core hours are between 7am-7pm Monday through Friday.
Dog Agents help manage the daycare playgroups to ensure safe and healthy play among the dogs. This involves understanding dog language, dog behavior and requires managing upwards of 10 dogs at a time.
Dog Agents also mentor our General Volunteers who may not have prior animal experience- and have the opportunity to take boarding gigs for additional income potential.
Dog Agents also have the opportunity to study as a Dog Training Apprentice, which is essentially free schooling that will prepare you for a career as a dog trainer.
The Apprenticeship Program offers career and skill advancement for those that have dog handling experience but have never worked one on one with dogs so you can grow in your career.
This opportunity is also available to General Volunteers who have completed their initial 12 weeks of training.
Dog Trainers help work with our Rock Star University clients- those doing a day training "boot camp" type program.
Trainers work one on one with dogs to complete our curriculum of skills and also manage smaller playgroups of RSU dogs who are learning to play appropriately but are not yet ready for general daycare.
This role requires previous schooling or experience with dog training that would constitute a professional, independent level of skill, even if this is a new endeavor for you (as in you do not have to have years of experience as long as you have done dog training and or schooling for it).
As a contracted trainer, you would also be eligible to host group training classes on evenings and weekends, as well as take boarding clients if desired to provide additional income opportunities.
