Motlow State is located in the beautiful rolling hills of middle Tennessee and has four campuses that serve students from eleven counties.

General Function : The Library Associate III is a major provider of the library’s customer, circulation, and reference services and gives computer assistance and one-on-one instruction to library patrons as needed.

The Library Associate III is a paraprofessional position that encompasses some, but not all, of the duties and responsibilities below.

Minimum Qualifications : Bachelor’s Degree earned from an accredited institution and at least one-year customer service experience.

Experience in increasingly responsible office work involving application of testing principles and use of technology in support of library services may be substituted for the required post-secondary education on a year to year basis.

Preferred Qualifications : Bachelor’s Degree earned from an accredited institution and three years Library employment experience

Major Duties and Responsibilities :

LIBRARY USER SERVICES : Provide supervision, mentorship, and guidance to Library Associates I and II, as well as student workers, ensuring the delivery of exemplary service to students, faculty, and community users.

Offer expert guidance and instruction to library patrons on how to access and acquire both physical and digital information through the library's catalog.

Manage and improve all aspects of circulation services, guaranteeing a seamless and efficient borrowing experience for library users.

Facilitate the use of library materials, computer databases, and library equipment, providing comprehensive support and assistance.

Monitor and facilitate use of study rooms.

LIBRARY SUPPORT SERVICES : Oversee and maintain records of daily library statistics and gate counts, leveraging this data to enhance library services and resources.

Collaborate in collecting and reporting library statistics data on a daily basis. Administer Motlow IDs as required for students, faculty, staff, and community users.

Manage the creation and maintenance of digital subject guides to enhance research and information access for library users.

Ensure clear and accurate signage related to library hours and closings. Provide professional and courteous responses when handling the library phone, welcoming students, faculty, staff, and community users, and promptly addressing voicemail or email messages.

Foster effective collaboration with all library areas, including distance education services, to enhance overall library offerings.

Use Google and Microsoft Suites in addition to the Library's ILS software, databases, and catalog to facilitate access to information resources.

Manage the movement of library materials, including lifting and carrying boxes weighing up to forty pounds and transporting book carts and equipment between buildings and rooms as required.

Undertake travel to other campus locations as assigned or needed to facilitate library services. Contribute to the campus community by serving on designated committees as assigned and / or appointed.

Assists students, faculty, and community users how to use virtual reality and other extended reality (XR) equipment and software.

TESTING CENTER COORDINATION :

Scheduling and Proctoring Exams : Schedule and proctor exams for students and faculty as needed. Ensure a secure and controlled testing environment, adhering to all testing center guidelines and policies.

Maintaining Testing Equipment : Coordinate the maintenance and upkeep of all testing equipment, including computers, software, and any specialized equipment required for testing.

Report any technical issues promptly and ensure timely resolution.

Assisting with Accommodations : Work with students who require testing accommodations, ensuring that all necessary arrangements are made to accommodate their needs.

This may involve communication with disability services and faculty members.

Data Management : Maintain records of testing sessions, including data related to the number of tests administered, test duration, and any incidents or issues that arise during testing.

Use this data to generate reports for assessment and improvement.

Communicating Testing Center Policies : Clearly communicate Testing Center policies and procedures to students, faculty, and staff.

Provide guidance and support to those utilizing the Testing Center's services.

Training and Supervision : Train and supervise Testing Center proctors and support staff, ensuring that they are well-prepared to assist with the testing process and maintain a secure testing environment.

Accessibility and Inclusivity : Ensure that the Testing Center is accessible and inclusive for all users, including individuals with disabilities.

Work with the library's accessibility services to implement necessary accommodations.

Collaboration : Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to coordinate the scheduling of exams and facilitate a smooth testing process.

Act as a liaison between the Testing Center and other campus departments as needed.

Continuous Improvement : Stay updated on best practices in testing and assessment and propose improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Testing Center.

CATALOGING : Performs copy cataloging, communicates with database vendors and Integrated Library System customer service for support to resolve any discovery or cataloging issue.

Recommends library purchases of digital, and print resources. Supervises the physical preparation of library materials for public use, ensuring quality and consistency.

Determines the need for replacement, repair, or disposal of worn, damaged, or lost materials. Works with the director on original cataloging and making catalog and cataloging corrections.

Supervises and performs ordering, tracking, and receipt of books and other materials. Maintains vendor contacts and reconciles vendor issues.

Processes library materials and trains additional library staff on how to process materials.

DEVELOPMENT OF DIGITAL RESOURCES : Manages the library's electronic resources including e-journals, research and reference databases, e-books, online multimedia databases including sound and streaming video, and other electronic document collections.

Coordinates trials of new resources and vendor demonstrations as needed. Coordinates and manages the selection, acquisition, and activation of electronic resources.

including preliminary license review and negotiation in consultation with the Library Director and relevant liaisons. Manages annual renewal processes Investigates and implements new / emerging acquisition models and tools for electronic resources.

Investigates and compares vendor products and offers, establishes and maintains effective vendor relations, negotiates and documents license terms and pricing, and collaborates with consortia partners.

Reviews and analyzes current online collections and provides recommendations for changes. Maintains awareness and engagement with emerging trends and technologies in electronic resources management, makes recommendations for improvement.

Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Working knowledge of books, eBooks, and library databases.

K nowledge of customer service principles and ability to apply them in a library setting

Demonstrates a working knowledge of cloud storage, including Microsoft OneDrive and Google Suite.

Has experience using D2L or a similar Learning Management System

Maintains relevant and current knowledge of library best practices through continual professional development and / or attendance at professional development events.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
