Job Description

Mott MacDonald is looking for a site safety lead to support a large project in the Bay Area with one of our clients. In this role you will be working to develop, implement and continuously update project health and safety plans.
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Provide PHASP training for employees performing field work.
  • In partnership with job site supervision, plan, lead and participate in job site safety meetings.
  • Train, educate and ensure job site supervisors are capable of running safety meetings on their own.
  • Participate in pre-job safety meetings with subcontractors.
  • Review all applicable documentation for completeness to ensure subcontractor can adequately execute their scope of work safely.
  • Follow up with subcontractor representatives to ensure proper disciplinary procedures are followed.
  • Provide and ensure compliance with information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
  • Plan and implement programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, safe equipment operating techniques and fire prevention for job sites and office.
  • Inspect organization facilities and job sites to detect existing potential accident and health hazards. Determine corrective or preventative measures, where indicated, assign responsibility, and follow up to ensure the corrective measures have been implemented.
  • Conduct periodic safety inspections on job sites to ensure safety procedures are in place.
  • Prepare study and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.
    Make recommendations to resolve any deficiencies.
  • Accept and review all Subcontractor job specific Safety Programs.
  • Periodically review new Subcontractor pre-qualification documentation to ensure they have an acceptable safety record and communicate with the appropriate team members of their acceptance or rejection.

Candidate Specification

The ideal candidate will have the following experience:
  • Ten (10) to 15 years (preferred) years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • A demonstrable history of safety inspection experience related to transit or heavy-civil construction projects.
  • Certificate in Safety Management (CSM)
  • Coursework and training in occupational safety requirements and OHSA guidelines is required.
  • Proven experience as Site Safety Lead.
  • Understanding of legal health and safety guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and written skills, with a safety-first mentality.
  • Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment.
  • Proven organizational and motivational skills.
  • Attention to detail and observation ability.
  • Must possess strong written and oral communication, and interpersonal, skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office 365 and SharePoint.
  • Understanding of engineering processes on multidisciplinary design contract.
  • Must be able to commute to project office in San José.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree
  • Relevant experience and knowledge of the transportation industry; engineering design experience
