What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Technician position at Moulton Niguel Water District?
THE DISTRICT'S TEMPORARY WORKFORCE NEED WILL AUGMENT WATER EFFICIENCY GIS EFFORTS.
The District is searching for a qualified Temporary, Full-Time GIS Technician. The incumbent will be assigned to the Water Efficiency Department.
Under the direction of the Sustainable Resources Officer and direct supervision of the Sr. Water Efficiency Specialist, perform and assist in Geographic Information System (GIS) data editing and geodatabase maintenance related to the District's Urban Water Use Objective. This is the entry-level classification in the job series. Incumbents work under close supervision as they learn and perform a limited range of tasks. Familiarization with the District's facilities, policies and procedures is required at this level.

- Research, input, and edit map and attribute data from various sources to construct geographic information systems layers; verify accuracy, correctness, and data sources; identify errors and make necessary corrections in a timely manner.
- Perform updates to map and attribute data for assigned applications.
- Work in coordination with all Water Efficiency staff to maintain accuracy of GIS, project records, and related data.
- Maintain and update Potable & Recycled Water Use Site maps.
- Provide other departments with files and information using a wide variety of formats and media; assist staff with information, including map and database related questions, respond to inquiries relating to data entry and update operations, perform requested spatial analyses, and generate exhibits and other visual output as requested.
- Conduct field data collection and verification using appropriate tools and hardware including, but not limited to, field irrigation maps, tablet computers, and measuring devices; incorporate field data into appropriate District databases.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of current software trends and functionality related to water and wastewater applications within GIS industry.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the KSAs is:
- High school diploma or equivalent certificate.
- Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license and a safe driving record.
- Knowledge of ESRI software and applicable editing and QA/QC techniques as applied to geospatial data.
- Prior work experience in a position requiring the application of skills necessary to perform the above duties; work experience in the water and/or wastewater industry is preferred; must have the ability to accurately read and interpret construction drawings and the District's sectional maps
Position requires the ability to work in an office environment with limited field exposure. Must be able to carry, push, pull, reach, and lift equipment and parts weighing up to 40 lbs. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl during field work. Must be able to work in an environment that could produce exposure to dust, dirt, significant temperature changes, and inclement weather. Must be proficient in the operation office equipment, such as computers, copiers, and fax machines. Must be able to communicate orally with District staff in face-to-face, one-on-one settings. Must be able to sit for extended time periods. Must be able to stand and walk for expended time periods. Must have hearing, vision, and eye-hand coordination and be able to maintain good awareness.
