Primary Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for all routine operations of the Department of Pharmacy Services. Develops programs, goals and objectives consistent with those of the organizations overall strategic plan.
2. Develops operational and capital budgets consistent with Mount Auburn Hospital and BILH System, and manages operating expenses and key indicators within the budget. Develops, implements, coordinates, monitors, evaluates and integrates pharmacy services that contribute to the overall success and financial viability of pharmacy services. Uses creativity in the delivery of services and products in a highly competitive market.
3. Provides appropriate pharmacy representation on hospital and medical staff committees. Serves as a professional resource for Physicians, Clinical Staff and Administration. Collaborates with Medical Staff and Clinical Staff regarding pharmacy programs and services.
4. Defines and resolves issues with the medication distribution system and continually evaluates performance relative to need for improvement of processes to assure the safe and appropriate delivery of medications to all patient care areas. Plans, supports and leads Quality Improvement efforts for relevant pharmacy services.
5. Manages human resources by recruiting, selecting, hiring and orienting qualified candidates. Evaluates staff performance in an accurate, consistent, objective and timely manner. Develops core position hiring strategies and ensures opportunities for professional development. Creates a cohesive pharmacy team committed to providing distributive, clinical and service quality to all customers.
6. Develops and monitors departmental policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with state and federal regulatory agency standards.
7. Strives to improve patient safety in all aspects of performance of the above essential functions, reports/documents medication errors and attends safety in-services, when appropriate.
Required Qualifications:
Requires current pharmacy licensure in the State of Massachusetts, a degree in Pharmacy (advanced degree preferred) from an accredited College of Pharmacy, and a minimum of five years pharmacy management experience. Must possess good organizational and computer skills. Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, Physicians and other contacts.

Must be able to communicate effectively with all educational levels and with a variety of professional disciplines. Must be able to deal with stress and function independently. Requires strong organizational, operational and time management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously. Requires periods of prolonged sitting, standing, walking and when necessary, travel. Work is generally performed in an office environment.
