Position Summary: The Executive Director oversees the Women's Leadership Institute & the operations of Corporate & Foundation Relations. The Executive Director will conceptualize, develop, implement, and manage comprehensive, long-range, mutually beneficial programs for the Women's Leadership Institute in concert with other programs across the University. The Executive Director collaborates with MMU faculty/administration and the external community to form partnerships and solicit funds to support WLI and MMU programs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage leadership development and empowerment programs that align with the University's strategic plan and meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders. Work effectively with other administrative leaders and faculty to enhance the student experience and enlighten and engage the external community through events, summer camp, workshops, academic programs, and mentoring opportunities.
  • Work closely with the Program Manager and Marketing to develop effective marketing, promotions, and PR approach/materials to help build awareness, engagement, and affinity for the Women's Leadership Institute. To ensure the success of programming for high school-age girls, relationship development with high school guidance counselors and administrators of community-based organizations is expected.
  • The Women's Leadership Institute is self-sustaining. The Executive Director manages a portfolio of individual and corporate donors and works with the Grants Manager to initiate and manage grants, sponsorships, donations, and other resources to ensure that Women's Leadership Institute operations have a positive net revenue and the projects reflect high-performance standards and bring meaningful impact for funders and participants.
  • Oversee and support the Grants Manager in the management of grant applications and awards of functions that include, but are not limited to: securing internal approvals to seek project funding; preparation and timely submission of grant applications, budget transfers, and reports; budget development; reconciliation of project expenses; communication with grantors; and ensure compliance with the rules and regulations administered by each grantor.
  • Support Grants Manager in coordinating monthly department updates based on regular interactions with the deans, as well as a bi-annual newsletter for current and potential corporate and foundation partners; focused primarily on grant and corporate projects, opportunities, and partnerships.
  • Develop strategies for prospect engagement and stewardship, including but not limited to: prospect research; working with Board of Trustees, faculty, and staff to leverage relationships with funder targets; meet with corporations and foundations to determine interests/needs; initiate opportunities for faculty, administrators, and deans to connect with corporations/foundations and partners of the Women's Leadership Institute to broaden the scope of their engagement (advisory boards, guest lecturers, internships, industry panels, industry visits, etc.); and collaborate with the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions on corporate partner outreach for recruitment.
  • Develop sponsorship packages, identify prospects, and solicit corporate sponsors for: Voices of Leadership, CREO, and the Summer Leadership Academy. Support University programs in creating proposals for sponsorship/engagement/investments, identifying appropriate prospects, and developing approach strategies.
  • Participate in networking opportunities on behalf of the University.
  • Assist the Business Office with fiscal administration of grant- and sponsorship-funded programs.
  • Supervise the daily operations, including budget, the Grants Manager, and the Program Manager for the Women's Leadership Institute.
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, or special projects as assigned, which may include serving on university committees or task forces.

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree with at 3-5 years of relevant experience in program management, promotion, events or related field, incorporate and foundation, giving and stewardship, and knowledge about grant writing and reporting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of development practices and principles and a track record of success in managing donor relationships.
  • Demonstrated interest and knowledge of women's issues locally and nationally.
  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written, as well as the ease with technology to deliver services and strengthen program implementation.
  • Ability to make presentations and public speeches and to clearly deliver information that responds directly to audiences. Sensitivity and respect for differing views and a commitment to advancing women's lives in their political, economic, and social worlds at home and in partnership with other women leaders.
  • Demonstrated experience promoting an inclusive atmosphere, experiences, and programming.
  • Proven effective interpersonal, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to a fast pace, and ability to manage multiple assignments. Creativity, initiative, and ability to bring ideas to fruition with specific results.
  • Ability to work individually with appropriate supervision and effectively with others on project teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to successfully maintain and develop new relationships within the corporate communities
  • Knowledge of public and private funding opportunities.
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize donor software.
  • Flexibility to travel, occasional weekend and evening work.
