What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructor- Broadway Bound Summer Drama Program (Seasonal) (Pool) position at Mount Wachusett Community College?
General Statement of Duties:
Theatre at the Mount is currently seeking qualified instructors/directors for our Broadway Bound summer program. The successful candidates will be responsible for directing, music directing, and choreographing a "theatre for young audiences" production, using a conservatory approach to teaching acting, music, and dance. The instructors will be responsible for implementing the curriculum and learning experiences in acting, music, and dance for students in grade two through high school. Under the Senior Director, instructors will oversee all production and technical elements, including lighting, set design, props and sound, ensuring the highest production values. Instructors/directors will provide students with a safe environment to nurture age-appropriate social and emotional skills in a summer program setting and will also mentor and oversee volunteer teen counselors in the program.
Responsibilities:
- Organize, develop, and lead classes in acting, music, and dance;
- Direct, music direct, and/or choreograph a "Theatre for Young Audiences" show;
- Oversee all production and technical elements including lighting, sets, props, and sound;
- Complete other assigned operational tasks before and after the class as directed;
- Provide fun and educational experiences indoors and/or outdoors for all students;
- Identify and respond to student's needs, concerns, and behavioral issues;
- Communicate with parents regarding the student's experiences and daily activities;
- Report a student's concerns to the Senior Director;
- Oversee and mentor teen volunteer counselors.
- Know, understand, and enforce all policies and emergency procedures associated with the Broadway Bound program and MWCC.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age;
- Prior experience in summer theatre programs for youth and teens or;
- An equivalent combination of education and experience in teaching theatre, music, and dance;
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Be available during scheduled programming hours.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree;
- College course work in theatre, music, dance;
- Certifications in CPR (child and adult levels) and basic first aid- current.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to lead and implement Broadway Bound curriculum and activities;
- Ability to maintain an upbeat and positive attitude with students, co-workers, and the college community;
- Ability to work as a member of team; and the
- Ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.

Salary: $25.00-$40.00 per hour based on position
