Summary/Objective

  • The Estimator/Project Manager is responsible for oversight all aspects of bidding and managing a shop project. This includes, but is not limited to, completing take-offs, inputting take-offs into MMWF’s bid sheet, obtaining pricing from vendors, job planning, budgeting, scheduling both with the customer and fabrication shop, and managing all project related documentation.

 

Essential Functions

  • Reviews bid documents and drawings
  • Performs take-offs from bid drawings
  • Inputs take-offs in MMWF bid sheet
  • Obtains pricing for materials and subcontractors
  • Prepares bid documents for review by MMWF team
  • Delivers approved bids to customers
  • Ensures receipt and understanding of full project proposal
  • Prepares and maintains schedule of values in computer by tracking material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs
  • Reviews projects and builds job tracking sheets with fabrication team
  • Reviews documents and ensures that all drawings are complete and up-to-date at all times
  • Manages assigned projects from start to finish
  • Acts as customer and vendor liaison for each project
  • Obtains bids from and schedules subcontractor(s) as necessary; manages subcontractor(s) throughout project
  • Obtains and communicates project details appropriately in a concise and professional manner
  • Promptly and thoroughly update details as needed in project log
  • Clearly delegate appropriate tasks to Project Coordinator, Detailer, and other personnel as required
  • Inform immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or computer database
  • Maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, general construction specifications, etc.
  • Manage Change Orders – obtain proper estimate of proposed work and document using MMWF change order process and approved documents
  • Attend external and company meetings as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility - There are some supervisory aspects of this position.

 

Work Environment - This job operates in a professional and constructive environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Job site work may be loud and include traversing uneven ground and working outside in various weather/construction conditions.

 

Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.

use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must

regularly lift or move more than 10 pounds.

 

Hours - This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday with some weekend and evening work.

 

Travel - Minimal to no travel is expected outside the metro area for this position

 

Education and Experience

· Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management preferred

· Advanced knowledge of steel fabrication and construction

· Excellent organizational and motivational skills

· Minimum 5 years of project management experience

· Minimum 5 years of estimating steel fabrication and erection projects
