Mountain Recreation is looking for a Pool Attendant to help assist our Aquatics team in our Eagle and Gypsum locations from May - September. They will be in charge of monitoring activities in slide and swimming areas at the Gypsum Recreation Center Indoor Pool and and/or Eagle Outdoor Pool to prevent accidents and provide assistance to swimmers by performing the cleaning and safety duties.

Salary: Full-Time - Seasonal; Hourly; Starting: $13.39 - 16.74/hr DOE

End of Season Bonus - All part-time employees are eligible for the end of season bonus program. Employees who are eligible for bonuses are those who:
Work at least the following hours from Monday, May 30th – September 5, 2022;
- 220 Hours = $300 Bonus (avg 15 hrs/wk)
- 120-219 Hours = $200 Bonus (avg 9 hrs/wk)
- 8 Overnights for Outdoor Rec Guides = $300 Bonus
General Statement of Duties: The main purpose of this position is to inspect, operate, clean, maintain and attend to the Gypsum Recreation Center waterslide. This position is responsible for the safety and orderly conduct of patrons, safe entry and exit of riders from the slide, general crowd control and emergency procedures. Additionally, they will assist with any maintenance of the pools such as cleaning the slides, pool, and facility and assisting with maintenance work for the pump room.
Supervision Required: Works under the general guidance and direction of the Recreation Coordinator of Aquatics and Recreation Supervisor of Aquatics.
Work Environment: Duties may be performed either indoors or outdoors, which may include working in extreme weather conditions (warm and humid indoor conditions to cool outdoor conditions) and ongoing exposure to sun and pool chemicals such as chlorine.
Work schedule is varied and may require evenings, weekends and holidays. Hours vary depending upon specific program needs. The flow of work and character of duties involve a high degree of mental and visual attention much or all of the time. Physical exertion includes frequent walking, bending and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, pushing, pulling and kneeling in order to conduct extractions and deliver basic first aid/life support and to deliver and move equipment and supplies. Job stress may include dealing with crowds, uncooperative participants, difficult individuals, emergency response, exposure to illness and periods of continuous demand.
Examples of Duties:
- Complete daily inspections of the water slide by visually checking for issues, documenting the inspection in the log book and physically riding the slide before opening the ride to the public.
- Supervise the top of the water slide continuously during operating hours, educating patrons of the rules for riding the water slide, enforcing rules, and operating slide
- Effective communicate with lifeguards and aquatic staff during operational hours
- Responsible for ensuring patrons conduct themselves in a safe and orderly manner
- Visually survey all areas of the water slide that are visible from the attendant’s position, including the splash pool
- Not opening slide for failed inspection and reporting any issues with the slide to supervisor
- Respond to emergencies according to safety training provided by Mountain Recreation and completing incident/accident reports as necessary
- Maintain the water slide, equipment used to operate water slide, and maintain maintenance for slide
- Assist in maintenance tasks for the pool and facility
- Attend Slide Dispatch Training, in-services or other trainings as required
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Knowledge & Skills:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred. OR
- Must be 15 years of age or older and currently attending school
- Must have at least First Aid/CPR/AED certification through American Red Cross (or able to obtain within 3 months of being hired)
Competencies:
Ability and skill to effectively communicate with patrons, staff and volunteers; establish and maintain positive, respectful and cooperative relationships with all contacts; handle stressful working conditions and emergencies; wear appropriate attire to actively participate in all activities. Must like and have some or willing to learn about aquatics.
