SUMMER DIRECTOR OF STUDIES
POSITION OVERVIEW
The MLA ESL Director of Studies (DoS) is a part-time, seasonal position (end-June to end-July) with Move Language Ahead, which is the trade name for Study World Corporation. The ESL Director of Studies works under the direct supervision of the Director of Academics for USA programs. The ESL Director of Studies is hired to supervise the delivery of five levels of MLA ESL curriculum by ESL Instructors to international high school students attending a two-week or three-week cultural immersion program. The ESL Director of Studies must liaise with the group leaders (International chaperones) in matters of curriculum, placement and classroom pedagogy. They will also be required to communicate with the MLA Center Director regarding students and scheduled program activities.
The MLA ESL Director of Studies is expected to commit to and be available for the entire program. Absence during the small window of contact with the students is detrimental to the program.
All Study World Corporation employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to the start of the contract unless a medical or religious exemption is approved. Newly hired employees will be required to provide proof of their COVID-19 vaccination.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
ESL Director of Studies must have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent along with prior ESL/EFL related experience and must represent MLA Move Language Ahead values and model those values to subordinates and colleagues.

KEY POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
Pre-Program
- Attend all required training/orientation meetings prior to the start of a session
- Become familiar with MLA ESL curriculum and MLA eBoards
- Review the program schedules
- Assist the Director of Academics with ESL Instructor induction and orientation
- Oversee the set-up and distribution of the ESL Instructor iPads
- Review results of the online placement test to correctly place the students in up to five levels of ESL instruction
- Administer on-site placement tests for students who did not complete the online placement test
- Create class rosters and attendance sheets based on placement testing results using the MLA eBoards
- Participate in the induction presentation to orient the students to the campus including classrooms, computer labs, library, etc.
- Conduct a meeting with the students' group leaders in order to discuss the academic program, placement test procedure and evaluative process
- Maintain a safe and professional environment suitable for teaching young students
- Schedule classroom teachers and ensure that they are on duty at the appropriate times
- Coordinate any and all changes in classroom locations and ensure that teachers and students begin daily instruction promptly and in an organized manner using the MLA eBoards
- Keep records of daily student attendance and report absences to the Center Director through the MLA eBoards
- Occasionally observe classroom instruction to ensure that site provided curriculum and online materials (where available) are being used appropriately to instruct the students
- Hold weekly meetings with instructors to discuss the program as well as provide academic support
- Be available to discuss any student-related issues with the student's group leaders
- Be prepared to substitute in the classroom in case of ESL Instructor absence
- Supervise the administration of exit exams and written progress reporting for each student
- Coordinate the graduation ceremony with the Center Director
- Process and ensure the accuracy of students' graduation certificates
- Oversee the distribution and collection of the center surveys
- Direct supervisory responsibility includes the authority to effectively recommend, hire, suspend, recall, discharge, assign, reward or discipline subordinate employees
- Maintain accurate records of subordinate attendance, performance, and discipline
- Oversee the collection and inventory of the ESL Instructor iPads
