JOB SUMMARY
The Youth Climbing Programs Manager is focused on teaching, supporting, and growing indoor gateway and youth climbing programs which includes Recreational team programs and Seasonal youth programs. This individual will report to the Gym Director and work closely with them and the Assistant Director of Programs to cultivate a team of skilled climbing instructors/coaches, create a program calendar that fits the needs of the community, and to support Movement’s mission and core values as they relate to climbing programs. As with all managers, they are expected to embody Movement’s mission and core values, leading by example for their staff.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reports to the Gym Director and works closely with the Assistant Director of Programs to develop the recreational team program in line with overall Movement vision
- Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and mentoring a cohesive team of Coaches and Instructors who collectively embody Movement’s values (Innovation, Passion, Partnership, Integrity, Inclusion) and provide high quality programming and customer experience for youth athletes and families
- Work closely with Coaches to develop training plans that ensure development of each athlete’s personal and team-oriented goals across all levels of the recreational team
- Serve as coach for the full breadth of gateway and youth instructional programs at Movement (as needed)
- Craft and share vision to other instructors, team members, and customers about programming
- Provide supervision for youth climbers who will be bouldering and belaying.
- Provide effective and timely communication between coaches, parents, gym leadership, and gym members
- Ensure that backend administration and organization of programs is taken care of in a timely and effective manner. This includes effective communication with new prospective athletes, handling membership issues, scheduling staff, tracking belay and other safety trainings, ordering team clothing and other supplies, etc.
- Manage the Youth Programs business unit at that facility, working to meet financial goals including overall revenue targets and comp/rev percentages which support the program and gym overall.
- Monitoring and quality control of programs and team members including responsibility for performance reviews for key youth program positions.
- Assist Programs Leadership with creating new curricula, instructor training tools, and other resources that will support continued growth of Movement programs (as needed).

- Passionate about refining their own instructional style, and teaching others to do the same
- Driven to build community around becoming a better climber
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively communicate team goals
- Ability to effectively balance a range of administrative tasks and deadlines
- Ability to build and lead a high-performing team
- Solid computer skills (web-based applications, Word, Excel, POS applications)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with athletes, coaches, parents, and gym leadership.
- Experience working to meet financial targets and staying on budget strongly preferred

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- This is a full time hourly non-exempt position - between 35-40 hrs per week
- Pay range for the role is $27-29/hour based on experience
