THE ROLE:
As the Director of Business Development, you’re quarterbacking the new business function for the agency. This means everything from fielding initial inquiries, to crafting proposals, to running RFPs, to wooing and closing new clients. Your extensive background in social strategy allows you to do this with ease.
You’ll report to our CEO, who is heavily involved in new business meetings and pitches. You’ll work on a small and nimble team, with our SVP Client Service and support from an account coordinator. You will also work cross functionally across our agency to create proposals and pitches.
This is not an ordinary business development role, as clients are coming to us! The focus is not on outbound prospecting. The focus is on building consultative thought partnerships with inbound brands, and shepherding them into deep, long-term client relationships.
New business at M S means being a sort of therapist to CMOs and social media managers who are hungry to reinvent the way they connect to consumers. They’re looking to us for inspiration and guidance. You will effortlessly build rapport with a CMO, and earn the admiration of a social media manager. You can help them understand their problems more deeply than they did when they came in and you can package the solutions into SOWs that our team can execute.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Quarterback new business efforts, from initial conversations through signed SOWs, nurturing relationships along the way.
- Manage our inbound pipeline, including responding to inquiries and scheduling meetings with interested clients. Prioritize and chase prospects.
- Manage our RFPs, including leading cross-functional teams to create high-quality proposals.
- Develop and implement an outbound process to proactively reach out to potential clients and build relationships with key decision-makers.
- Partner with our marketing team to improve our external marketing and inbound process.
- Coach and mentor our account teams on growing their accounts and increasing revenue.
- Track and report on business development metrics, including pipeline, conversion rates, and revenue growth.

- Fluent in brand building and upper funnel marketing.
- Deep understanding of social media marketing, including a passion for TikTok.

- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire cross-functional teams to achieve their goals.
- Extensive client-facing experience in past roles, along with strong presentation skills.
- Strategic mindset, with the ability to think creatively and identify new opportunities for revenue growth.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to make informed decisions.
