GMA is the only global garnet supplier to manage the complete supply chain from source and processing to international distribution. We own our mines and processing plants in Australia, the USA, and the Middle East and have invested significantly to expand our sources of supply and production capacity to incorporate alluvial, crushed, and recycled garnet. More than 450 GMA employees manage our operations encompassing 13 offices, two garnet mines, and eight processing plants, including five large-scale recycling facilities, located across the Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the VP of Operations, this leadership role located at our facility in Coos Bay, Oregon is vital to ensuring safety is managed on-site while having a strong focus on quality, people, integrity, and customer service. The Plant Manager is responsible for all plant operations and functions including Safety, Quality, Environmental Compliance, Production, Maintenance, Shipping and Dock operations, safety, maintenance, and readiness. The Plant Manager is responsible for maintaining the plant operating budget and the Capital Budget. The Plant Manager is also responsible for creating a healthy and respectful work environment where employees can grow and thrive. This position reports to the Vice President of Operations.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES | PRODUCTION

  • Manage GMA's Coos Bay, OR. mineral processing and packaging operations, including quality control.
  • Carry out production forecasting & scheduling to ensure that all customer requirements are fulfilled as efficiently as possible.
  • Ensure that end-of-month production reports are completed accurately and within required timeframes.
  • Ensure timely purchase of packaging materials, parts, consumables and approved capital acquisitions.
  • Efficiently manage bulk storage for concentrates and products.
  • Manage shipping coordination for all concentrate or product inputs to Coos Bay.
  • Management of trucking and dispatch activities.
  • Management of warehouse activities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES | MAINTENANCE

  • Ensure maintenance activities are managed to ensure maximum availability of plant and packaging equipment
  • Direct and supervise the maintenance function to ensure high levels of plant reliability are achieved and that proper maintenance records and metrics are kept.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute all necessary maintenance and capital projects ensuring the dock is maintained in good working order.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES | PORT & DOCK OPERATIONS

  • Ensure the readiness of the facility's dock so that it can receive, offload, load sea vessels.
  • Ensure the workforce is properly trained and current in docking and unloading/loading sea vessels
  • Maintain all required programs and documents required for the dock's safe operations and maintenance.
  • Coordinate with the Coast Guard and Army Corps of Engineers to maintain proper dredging of the waterway.
  • Coordinate all the applicable organizations, contractors, Stevedores, Longshoreman, and others as required to safely dock and load/unload vessels at the facility's dock.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES | CAPITAL EXPENDITURE

  • Determine appropriate capital expenditure projects - including scope and cost estimates.
  • Develop Applications for Expenditure (AFE's) for capital projects - including establishing business cases and economics for the justification of expense.
  • Ensure the timely supply, construction, and completion of all capital projects within approved limits.
  • Responsible for the development of the annual capital budget for the facility to include the dock.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES | FINANCE/BUDGETING

  • Participate in annual and ongoing budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Develop annual budgets.
  • Develop quarterly production and expense forecasts and others as required.
  • Manage financial activities and reporting in alignment with agreed targets.
  • Responsible for operating the plant within the annual budget.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES | PERSONNEL

  • Management of all Plant production personnel including Health & Safety, laboratory, production operations, maintenance, shipping & technical staff.
  • Make employment decisions in line with approved staff numbers.
  • Conduct regular employee performance reviews.
  • Manage employee performance in line with company policy and procedures.
  • Develop employee training plans and ensure training is completed and that employees are competent to perform all tasks they are requested to perform.
  • Regular communications with employees on business status and priorities.

  • Identify and, where justified and approved, implement improvements to safety, quality, production or work conditions.
  • Ensure that all Federal, State, and Local regulations are followed for dock and port operations.

  • Provide direct supervision of the plant safety coordinator Demonstrate a commitment to the safety of Coos Bay employees by promoting safety as a core GMA value.
  • Comply with Mining Safety and Health legislation, obligations and acts consistently with the GMA Global Safety Policy and other company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
