Yard Jockey

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

The Yard Dog Driver-Tarp Trailer Tech is responsible for using the Yard Dog tractor to move trailers and other equipment around the yard, as necessary to ensure efficient yard operations. Inspect trailers to ensure proper operation of mechanical and electrical components. Arrange for maintenance of trailers as required. Assist with tarping of waste loads and manage inventory of tarping materials. Checks tarped loads for road worthiness.

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

• Moving empty/loaded trash trailers out of the shoot
• Daily maintenance check/review of the trailers, taillights, fluid leaks, tires, etc.
• Trailer safely hooked/unhooked
• Swap out trash trailers
• Contact dispatch when maintenance is needed for a trailer
• Make sure yard is organized
• Secure tarp/bungee on trailers, replace if needed
• Maintains inventory of tarps, bungees, zip ties, etc.
• Confirm road worthiness of loaded trailers

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

• Attention to detail
• Safe operation of a commercial tractor trailer in close quarters

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

• Completion of daily tasks, as specified by Waste Operations Director
• Equipment uptime (Yard Dog and trailers)
• % Of loads reaching destination with intact tarping.

COMMUNICATIONS REQUIRED

• Repair orders for equipment (as necessary)
• Load incident reports

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position will be working primarily outdoors, year-round. Exposure to seasonal elements is expected. If travel is required, the normal automobile and air travel hazards will apply.

• Include physical demands – standing, lifting, other expectations or occasional tasks.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND EDUCATION

• Driver’s license
• Experience with safe tractor-trailer operations in close quarters

Authorized to work in the United States.
