Our company is seeking a GIS/GPS Technician I to perform GIS data and mapping services and GPS data collection for our customers nationwide. Considerations will be given to Senior GIS Technician status if several bonus items are met.

Summary
The GIS/GPS Technician I is responsible for reading, interpreting, analyzing, entering, and converting customer geographical data and creating or enhancing the information database, maps, and graphics of their geographic information system (GIS).
This position is responsible for GPS field assignments to build, update or validate customer’s assets. Field assignments typically consist of inspecting, verifying, collecting, and compiling data on electric, water, gas, and joint use distribution systems using GPS collection devices and other, miscellaneous GIS software.
This position is expected to assist Senior GIS/GPS Technicians with map development, interpretation, analysis, data entry, and other GIS-related tasks as assigned. The position requires the use of Esri ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro, Autodesk AutoCAD Map 3D, Trimble Pathfinder Office, MSSQL, Microsoft Office, and other software daily. The technician is also required to understand mPower’s proprietary software products, build related sites to house any field or customer data, and develop the requisite skills to install these products.
Key Responsibilities-
Perform GPS surveys utilizing GPS receivers and mobile mapping tools to collect GPS coordinates, joint use measurements, and pole attachment and/or system attribute data quickly and reliability in a variety of settings.

Data processing and quality control checks, equipment and deployment preparation, and other project tasks.

Provide GIS support to project staff and client technical staff including but not limited to creating and maintaining map products or concept level project drawings using Esri or Autodesk software platforms.

Coordinate with project staff and utilize GIS to assist in building customer base and utility maps.

Train client technical staff on how to effectively use their GPS receiver/mapping tools, manage data, and GIS software.

Performs other related functions as assigned.

Follow company policies and report unsafe conditions to supervisors immediately.
Requirements-
Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geography, Engineering, Computer Science, or similar field with preference to certification in GIS.

Knowledge of SQL coding

Ability to use Esri ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro and Autodesk AutoCAD Map 3D mapping platforms

Read and understand maps and engineering drawings related to utility systems.

Use computers, tablets, and GPS handheld devices proficiently.

Work outdoors continuously in inclement or severe weather.

Stand, walk, hike or ride ATV/UTVs for an extended time in rough and uneven terrain, steep hillsides, creeks, remote areas, and heavily traveled roadways.

Bend, reach and move to carry items weighing 25 lbs. or more.

Must feel comfortable working alone and/or on a team.

Travel to support inspection and field data collection activities anywhere nationally up to 100% of work time.

Must have a current and valid US Driver's license, be insurable on an auto policy with no major driving infractions and be able to travel by airline.
Bonus Abilities-
Experience identifying Electric utility distribution network pole attachments/assets/infrastructure (strongly preferred)

Experience using Trimble GPS hardware and software

Experience writing code in Python and/or JavaScript

Experience using XML, JSON, and CSV data types

Proficient with MS SQL Server and MS Server

Proficient with Esri Server and Esri Enterprise
