Position Summary
The Yard Tech plays a crucial role in the efficient and safe operation of the yard, supporting the maintenance and deployment of cranes. This role extends support to both the Dispatch and the Fleet Services Team through directed assignments. These assignments encompass various yard tasks and maintenance responsibilities, while also supporting teams at the job sites with needed deliveries.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Yard Operations
- Organize and maintain the layout of the shop and yard to optimize cleanliness, space, and accessibility.
- Perform ground keeping and building maintenance duties.
- Monitor and clean equipment.
- Pick up and deliver supplies or parts as needed.
- Inventory Management/ Documentation
- Maintain work order’s structure and completion.
- Perform equipment Check-In and Check-Out procedure.
- Track and manage fuel equipment and log fuel, hours, mileage, and equipment number.
- Replenish supplies as needed to support maintenance activities.
- Safety Compliance
- Adhere to and enforce safety protocols and guidelines.
- Conduct regular safety inspections in the yard to identify and address potential hazards.
- Team Collaboration
- Work closely with other technicians, operators, mechanics, dispatch, and management to ensure effective communication and teamwork.
- Provide support during crane assembly, disassembly, maintenance, and transportation.
- Communicate with Union Foreman on the distinguishment between Yard Tech and Union covered work.
- Training and Development
- Stay updated on industry trends, technology, and safety standards.
- Participate in training to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High School Education or equivalent.
- Ability to obtain CDL within 2 months.
- OSHA 10, 30, 40 training (preferred)
- Minimum 6 months of repair and maintenance experience (preferred)
- Equipment operation certifications (i.e., forklift), welding certification, and harness training (preferred)

Knowledge:
- Safety Awareness – Understanding of basic safety regulations and the importance of following safety protocols. Awareness to identify hazards and prioritize safety.
- Tool Familiarity – Basic knowledge of common tools used in equipment/ shop maintenance. Willingness to learn and become proficient.
Skills:
- Demonstrate ability to perform hands-on tasks with a willingness to learn and develop practical skills in crane and yard maintenance.
- Communication Skills – effectively convey information to team members and the ability to follow instructions and ask for clarification when needed.
- Administrative – plans, organizes, and prioritizes tasks and daily duties assigned.
