Associate Scientist - Biochemist, Microbiologist, Biologist
Our laboratory, located in Gaithersburg, Maryland is looking for an experienced/mid-level Associate Scientist. This staff member will receive vital experience with research, sample preparation/tracking data, while gaining a thorough understanding of relevant federal regulations, QA/Safety/SOPs, and instrumentation.
Qualifications:
M.S in Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry or equivalent in experience; orB.S. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience;
Knowledge and/or experience in a BSL-2 laboratory environment, basic laboratory and analytical skills, and a solid scientific educational background with laboratory coursework.
DNA extraction, PCR, and immune assay experience
High throughput sample processing and reagent prep experience.
Demonstrates success with technical capabilities in a laboratory environment.
Ability to effectively communicate and interact with technical staff in a team-based environment. Ability to take a leadership role with shift-related projects.
Good oral and written communication.
Proficient PC skills and ability to learn new software and systems
Good time management skills, ability to work under pressure and multi-task
Well organized and methodical, yet flexible to changing priorities
Ability to identify potential problems and opportunities affecting MRI or client work
Ability to work independently.
Detail oriented.
This will be a 5 day/8 hour 3rd shift position (8pm-5am) Sunday-Thursday, subject to change depending on client’s needs.
Additional weekend and holiday work may be required.
Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. In order to meet the government security investigation requirements, U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.
Performs processing and analysis of environmental samples for the presence of potential biological threat agents. Assists with sample in-processing, DNA preparation, immunoassay and PCR analysis, data entry into laboratory information management system and sample management system, and general laboratory housekeeping duties. Additionally, perform data review and provide technical support to Shift Leader on duty
Environmental sample processing and analysis including:
Robotic DNA extraction using the KingFisher Flex system
Immunoassay via the Luminex MAGPIX system
qPCR using the Life Technologies QS5 system
Molecular Biology
DNA, RNA, and protein purification and quantification, gel electrophoresis, molecular cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, and recombinant protein expression.
