What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President, Government Affairs position at MRO?
The VP, Government Affairs will lead all MRO government affairs interactions. This role requires collaboration with internal stakeholders and supervision of external support to align business objectives with actionable advocacy strategies. This position will focus on planning, communicating, advocating, and executing a proactive national government affairs strategy that advances MRO’s enterprise objectives consistent with its mission. The VP, Government Affairs will report to the General Counsel.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations
- Provide a full range of Government Affairs tactics, support for messaging, coalition building, and grass roots activation.
- Develop government affairs strategies and priorities and partner with the appropriate internal and external subject matter experts to effectively implement those strategies and priorities.
- Understand business needs against political backdrop to develop viable legislative or regulatory solutions. Prioritize issues appropriately against adopted leadership approved MRO priorities.
- Provide leadership and the business with guidance on state, local, and national political and legal dynamics as they relate to ROI, HIM, and registry businesses.
- Serve as a key resource for federal, state, and local legislative matters and directly interact with state and federal agencies and support lobbying efforts, as necessary.
- Systemically and frequently identify and report on key trends that could either be detrimental to the business or create opportunities for competitive distinction.
- Effectively communicate complex concepts and strategies to stakeholders across MRO.
- Coordinate closely with legal, compliance, and communications teams to ensure alignment toward the business objectives and any external activities that could impact the MRO brands.
Education And Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Preferred: advanced degree in political science, health policy, law, business, health sciences or any other related field
- 7 years experience in healthcare advocacy at the state and/or federal level
- A strategic mindset and the ability to manage through complexity and ambiguity while simultaneously building internal and external networks
- Innovative thinking, nimble learning, strong interpersonal skills, and exceptional oral and written communication skills
