What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head of Claims, Americas position at MS Amlin?
Purpose
Manage the claims portfolio for all classes of business underwritten by MS Amlin Reinsurance Managers, Inc. and oversee the recovery process for any Outwards Reinsurances purchased by the company.
Claims Management
- To be responsible for the claims management of the Company for all classes of business underwritten.
- To handle own portfolio of accounts and manage complex cases for the Company.
- Appoint loss adjusters/lawyers where necessary.
- Manage and co-ordinate claims processes in conjunction with the Local CUO and the Head of Claims AG.
- Liaise with MS Zurich, Bermuda and London, as well as Legal resources where appropriate to ensure consistency and effective claims management is in place.
Liaise with clients/brokers/co-reinsurers on claims issues.
- To review, amend and introduce revised procedures in conjunction with and Head of Claims AG when appropriate to ensure that best practice in claims management and claims handling is in operation at all times.
- To ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory or audit requirements.
- Where appropriate to liaise with the Outwards Reinsurance recovery team for the Company, to provide calculation of the Ultimate Losses for recovery and to ensure accurate recoveries are calculated, billed and recovered in a timely manner.
Monitoring
- To ensure that all claims are handled according to MS Amlin AG’s and the Company’s established Reinsurance claims Standard, policies and procedures.
- To be responsible for all claims handling procedures and monitoring within the claims area.
- To ensure regulatory reporting requirements are achieved, for internal and external purposes.(JSOX)
- Maintain Authority Levels as per those agreed within the existing MS Amlin AG Authority Matrix.
External and Internal Liaisons
- To be the Company claims representative on internal working parties and projects as required.
- To be the Company representative on external committees as necessary.
- To maintain relationships with the underwriters and the actuarial function within the Company and MS Amlin AG, and other business areas as required.
Client Liaison
- To meet with brokers and clients as required discussing existing claims / accounting development and promoting the claims handling environment within the Company.
- To carry out client visits where appropriate to discuss claims development, current claims trends and issues, develop and maintain relationships.
- Prepare meaningful notes and reports on client visits.
Claims Reporting
- Regularly review and report upon the claims portfolio.
- Discussions with external Auditors and Actuaries regarding claims management, account developments, industry trends, significant claims movements as part of the year end reserving of the Company and MS Amlin AG.
- Production of Americas claims reports. Assist with the monthly claims reporting process for MS Amlin AG Management. Support any claims reporting as requested ad-hoc, or for any Boards/Committees.
- Support the quarterly claims reserving process and provide claims information to actuaries and management as requested.
- Responsible for providing the required claims information for any outwards reinsurance programme purchased.
- Provide analysis to support/calculate IBNR’s. Evaluate actual and potential liability exposures, and recommend accurate and timely reserves/IBNR’s.
- Produce appropriate reports on all lines of business and on all major developments.
Letters of Credit
- To oversee claims related components of the letter of credit issuance process.
Systems
- Ensure all systems are being operated and utilised to their most efficient to support the claims management of the business.
Qualifications/Experience:
MUST BE ELIGIBLE TO WORK IN THE US
- Minimum of 10 years claims handling experience within the re/insurance industry.
- A University/College degree in a business or legal discipline is an asset.
- Knowledge of property, casualty and specialty reinsurance lines.
- Previous experience conducting claim audits.
- Solid understanding of reinsurance contract terms and structures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite applications together with a proven track record of attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage deadlines.
- Highly collaborative team player, with the ability to use initiative and self-manage whilst being able to work effectively in a team environment.
- Must be willing to travel and work extended hours where appropriate.
- Fluency in Spanish. Portuguese a plus
