Overview:
We are looking for a Production Manager to join the Murrysville team! Reporting directly to the Murrysville Plant Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of operations management for the Head Protection product group departments, including planning, organizing and leading manufacturing departments to drive performance to stated goals. This will be accomplished by leading the Hat Factory in driving Continuous Improvement through the application of the MSA Operating System, and providing strategic direction to ensure associates at all levels are engaged in safety, customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, problem solving and lean initiatives. It also requires significant interaction with corporate and functional support groups to ensure a safe work environment, timely new product launches, strong delivery performance and customer service, high quality levels, and continuous cost and process improvements in an effort to achieve Operational Excellence and favorable financial results. Responsibilities:
  • Leadership, Staffing, and Development – Lead the Hat Factory organization, continuously improving core competencies, executing a flexible workforce, and developing programs to achieve organizational objectives. Collaboratively set objectives for supervisors and group leaders, monitor progress, and provide coaching and support to achieve desired results. Develop and maintain motivational relationships with the hourly associates and individuals at all organizational levels;
  • EHS – Collaboratively partner with hat factory associates to define and implement safe practices and encourage safe behaviors. Engage associates to participate in proactive safety and ergonomic programs including near hits, OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program, and Behavior Based Safety. Ensure systems and procedures are in place to meet OSHA and other regulatory compliance;
  • Quality – Ensure products are produced in accordance with design requirements, production processes adhere to the MSA Quality Management System and regulatory agencies, and customer issues are resolved in a timely manner;
  • Delivery Performance – Establish production processes that exceed market expectations;
  • Continuous Improvement / Product Cost Reduction – Drive continuous improvement activities. Shorten and simplify supply chain, reduce product costs, eliminate waste, and increase equipment efficiency;
  • New Products – collaborate with NPD teams to introduce new products into serial production, on schedule and within budget;
  • Financial Performance – Develop and drive performance to the annual budget. Manage and report on Hat Factory performance for customer service, product / process quality, safety, employee relations, and other regulatory financial compliance as needed. Apply business analytics and financial analysis to drive decisions and sustainable problem solving;
  • Capital Equipment – Identify short and long term needs for capital equipment for the Hat Factory;
  • Develop strong working relationships with other key company functions (Engineering, Marketing, Sales, etc.)

  • Demonstrated success in the development of individuals’ skills and abilities so they can fulfill current and/or future job responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve stated goals and build strong working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Familiarity with multiple CI disciplines such as Lean / Six Sigma principles
Special knowledge, skills and abilities preferred:
  • Familiarity with the MSA Operating System in aligning performance for success to accomplish work objectives
  • Familiarity with MSA Business System concept and understanding of importance of implementting CI efforts at all levels of business operations.

Education and experience required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related technical field required.
  • This position is available at three different career levels depending on experience, education, etc.:
    • Level I: Three or more years of production supervision or project management experience required, plus four years of production or related experience; Masters, advanced degree, or relevant military experience may be substituted for up to two years of supervisory and/or work experience
    • Level II: Four or more years of production supervision or project management experience required, plus five years of production or related experience; Masters, advanced degree, or relevant military experience may be substituted for up to two years of supervisory and/or work experience
    • Level III: Five or more years of production supervision or project management experience required, plus five years of production or related experience; Masters, advanced degree, or relevant military experience may be substituted for up to two years of supervisory and/or work experience
  • Master’s Degree preferred
