Who are we hiring?The Assistant Athletic Trainer/Equipment Manager for the Westchester Knicks assists with the coordination of all athletic training, strength and conditioning, and the overall sports performance and wellness needs of the players. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will also be responsible for assisting with the coordination and administration of all player health care in collaboration with the team physician(s) and consulting physicians, working closely and communicating with the Head Athletic Trainer. This position plays an important role in preventing and treating player injuries as well as enhancing the overall performance of the team. The Equipment Manager will be responsible for management of all team equipment and player equipment. This individual will create a safe working environment of trust and care, which encourages athletes to engage in their overall health and safety.
What will you do?- Provides expert training services to prevent, treat and rehabilitate athletic injuries and related health conditions sustained by players
- Coordinate the provision of services with the Head Athletic Trainer, Team Physicians, and other medical service providers as needed
- Collaborate on all strength and conditioning activities as needed, including the development of player specific programs and daily team warm-up activities
- Communicate effectively with Head Athletic Trainer to maximize team performance while being mindful of health issues and concerns
- Oversee practice and game uniform/gear distribution and retrieval
- Oversee practice and game day equipment preparation and setup
- Ensure daily laundering of player equipment, player gear, and practice equipment
- Manage the organization of all team equipment for all games and practices
- Assist Head Athletic Trainer with game day player preparation, in game injury management, and on bench hydration.
- Collaborate with nutritionist and other sport medicine resources to educate players and empower them to make positive and effective diet and supplement choices
- Assist Head Athletic Trainer with the management of player medical files, insurance claims, processing and follow-up of league mandated drug testing and education, concussion protocol assessments, and other athletic training related tasks as directed by Head Athletic Trainer
- Help provide oversight of the practice facility locker room and the game day locker room, in addition to management of game day staff.
- Assist with team travel preparation and baggage logistics in coordination with the Head Athletic Trainer
- Other duties as assigned by Head Athletic Trainer
What do you need to succeed?- Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training
- NATABOC Certified. NY State Licensure Eligible
- 1-2 years of major Division 1 or professional experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree
- ABPTS certification
- CSCS certification
- Experience working in professional sports
