What are the responsibilities and job description for the GL Accountant position at MSPCA-Angell?
This is a full-time 40 hour a week position. Note: This is a remote/in-office hybrid position.
THE POSITION:
The GL accountant will be involved in various aspects of operations. Responsibilities include recording monthly journal entries including depreciation, charitable gift annuity and loan activity and will be responsible for the monthly bookkeeping for the fondouk. S/he will contribute to month end close, including reconciling fixed asset activity and will work closely with accounting colleagues to ensure a high standard of service. S/he will assist in the development and documentation of department policies, procedures and internal controls. S/he will maintain strict confidentiality with respect to all related information and materials.
Some of the duties include:
- Perform booking for the American Fondouk on a monthly basis, including reconciling accounts, foreign currency translation entries and creating monthly reports to send to management.
- Renew vehicle registrations and update garaging as needed. Ensure employees are added and removed from insured drivers list as needed.
- Assist in the monthly preparation of dashboard reports to be sent to budget owners.
- Participate in other projects for the Society as assigned
- Reconcile charitable gift annuity statements on a monthly basis and record related activity.
- Maintain a reconciliation of fixed asset activity on a monthly basis and record monthly depreciation
- Assist in the monthly preparation of dashboard reports to be sent to budget owners.
- Work closely with colleagues in accounting to complete year-end audit. Prepare necessary schedules for audit as requested. Work with auditors during audit to answer any questions or provide further details of activity.
- Prepare, enter, review and approve journal entries as needed
- Review and update current accounting policies and procedures.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:
We are looking for applicants with at least two years’ experience working as an accountant. As this position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, we require applicants to include a cover letter showcasing your writing skills.
