Mt. Macrina Manor has limited openings reserved for a local upcoming Nurse Aide training program. Mt. Macrina Manor will pay for your tuition which includes books and state exam and in return for your agreement to accept employment offered by Mt. Macrina Manor and maintain employment for a minimum of one (1) year after your date of hire.

Mt. Macrina Manor is a 133 bed, not for profit, skilled nursing facility that has served Southwestern Pennsylvania since 1971. The grounds are located approximately one hour south of Pittsburgh in a scenic, peaceful rural area directly off Route 40 in Uniontown. The facility offers 24 hour nursing care, rehabilitative services, memory care, and pastoral care to all denominations. We accept all residents without regard to race, color, age, sex, national origin, religious creed, disability or genetic information. Our mission is based upon the sponsorship of the Sisters of St. Basil the Great. Our staff continues the mission of the Sisters of providing joyous, compassionate care that preserves the human dignity of all that we serve.

Objectives of Training Class: The course is designed to enable a student to gain nurse related knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully pass the Nurse Aide Competency Examination in Pennsylvania and gain employment in a health care facility.

The course is a 120 hour approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The 120 course is divided between Theory, Skills Laboratory and a Clinical segment provided in a state approved Long term Care Facility.

The 40 hour Theory and 25 hour Laboratory Skills segments are directed to educate the student:

Role of the Nursing Assistant: Function as an unlicensed individual within the legal and ethical standards. This includes abuse-free verbal and nonverbal communication, promotion of all patient's rights and independence, proper terminology and documentation in the patients clinical record.

Infection Control: Proper hand washing, principles of transmission of diseases, applying basic Standards Precautions/Transmission-Based Precautions.

Safety Techniques: Basic emergencies, proper body mechanics, guidelines for use of restraints.

Personal Care: Provided in a safe, abusive free manner. Personal care includes hand-on care for Activities of Daily Living (ADL's).

Basic Body Systems: Effects of aging and disease upon the body.

Restorative Care: Self-help activities, safety with use of assistive devices, providing safe range of motion (ROM) exercises, and measures to promote independence.

Identification of Basic Psychological Characteristics: Of elderly and disabled patient's, understanding mental health and need for social services.

Death and Dying

The 55 hour Clinical Segment is designed to prepare the nurse aide/assistant student in his/her role in the long term environment under the supervision of the Registered Nurse Instructor or Licensed Practical Nurse. Instruction is accomplished in the clinical setting directed at applying the Theory and Skills learned prior to the Clinical setting. Skills include: basic emergency and safety/comfort procedures, restorative care, nutrition, feeding, infection control, providing effective psycho-social interventions for the patient's and preparing for death and dying.

If selected you will be required to submit your registration for approval before the course begins along with the following:

Tuition paid for by Mt. Macrina Manor which includes book and state exam.

Criminal History Report (Paid for by Mt. Macrina Manor)

Verification of PA Residency (If you have not been a resident for last 2 years and also paid for by Mt. Macrina Manor)

Negative 2-step Mantoux test (Paid for by Mt. Macrina Manor)

Physical Exam (Paid for by Mt. Macrina Manor if done at the facility or by the Student/Employee if done by their choice of provider)

Documentation that you have received a Flu Shot and Covid-19 Vaccination

Provide a valid PA Photo ID/Driver's License

Provide a High School diploma or transcript

Due to regulatory requirement by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid services, a COVID-19 vaccination is required and considered a condition of employment.  To be eligible for hire with Mt. Macrina Manor, prospective employees must be fully vaccinated at time of orientation.  A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose in a two-shot series, such as the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as the J&J/Janssen vaccine.
