Career Pathway Teacher and Post-Secondary
Coordinator, High School Transitions Program



Status: full-time, exempt
Compensation: $48,000 – 53,000 annual salary, based on experience and licensing, plus benefits
(see below); 190-day contract
Reports to: Manager of Curriculum & Instruction, Dean of Students
Location: Mt. Scott Learning Center, 6148 SE Holgate Blvd., Portland (on major bus lines)
Start date: August 2022 – exact date to be determined

POSITION SUMMARY
The Transitions Program supports students in reaching high school graduation and in developing
the life skills and career planning needed for post-secondary success. The Transitions Program
offers academic support for students’ current classes, career and life-skills classes, individual case
management, and intensive career pathway planning encompassing post-secondary education,
professional internships, apprenticeships, and career training.

The Career Pathway Teacher and Post-Secondary Coordinator is responsible for encouraging
student growth and development, monitoring and supporting academic achievement and path to
graduation, providing career pathway and life skills classes to students of all grade levels, and
case management services.

YOUR IMPACT AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Classroom instruction

  • Teach classes focused on developing life skills and post-secondary success in employment
and/or education, with a particular emphasis on the development of vocational skills and
competencies
  • Assist in academic lab coverage, supporting tutoring and providing staff classroom
coverage as needed


Career pathways case management

  • Identify and coordinate opportunities for student career development through additional
classes, mentoring, internships, volunteerism, or other activities
  • Provide follow-up services to recent alumni to ensure continued success

Academic advisory
  • Support student understanding of academic credit needs and other requirements needed
for graduation
  • Identify needs and refer students to services for support, internally or externally
  • Conduct and/or attend family meetings with students’ teacher-advisor
  • Assist leadership team in organizing graduation ceremony


Program evaluation

  • Track and measure key program progress indicators
  • Report on student outcomes and provide data to leadership and other team members
  • Support the Manager of Curriculum and Instruction with student testing


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or related field (working towards considered)
  • At least two years of secondary teaching experience
  • Experience with post-secondary planning for education, training, and employment
  • Experience working with students of diverse races, cultures, and socio-economic
backgrounds
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural competency through past job
experience, activism, or other relevant experience
  • Experience practicing positive youth development, Positive Behavioral Interventions and
Supports, and Youth Empowerment
  • Digital literacy and ability to master database management
  • Able to pass criminal background check (required)
  • COVID vaccination (required)
