Public Works Laborer

Muhlenberg Township, Berks County, PA is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Roads Department Laborer position.

Laborers perform a wide variety of maintenance service, repair, and minor construction functions to streets, bridges, public buildings, infrastructure, vehicles and equipment in Muhlenberg Township.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Repair streets, pot holes, cracks, bumps and sink
• Clean, maintain and repair storm sewer systems- inlets, culverts, swales and pipes
• Load and haul debris, snow and materials
• Install storm sewer systems including: excavate trenches for pipe and inlets, install pipe, inlets and culverts; properly backfill and restore trenches
• Operate composting equipment at compost site
• Paint curbs and traffic lines
• Construct and fabricate structural features as required
• Carpentry, electrical and plumbing, painting, masonry and concrete work
• Set up work zone traffic control signs and direct traffic through and/or around construction sites
• Erect, repair and replace signs and guide rails

Requirements:

• Experience working with concrete, ADA concrete work is helpful.
• Knowledge of light, medium and heavy operating procedures
• Thorough knowledge of construction, maintenance and repair practices and procedures for streets, storm water systems, buildings, grounds and traffic signs.
• Experience operating manual and power tools
• Ability to lift heavy objects of up to 50lbs and occasional lifting over 50lbs
• Ability to perform physical labor, manual tasks or operate equipment for extended periods of time
• Ability to work in adverse outdoor weather conditions
• Ability to work overtime as needed
• Preferably has a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) class B or able to obtain a CDL within 6 months from accepting employment is required
• Heavy equipment operator experience is a plus

This is a union position.

Starting Rate: $21.76 increasing to $27.21 per hour after probationary period.

Pay: From $21.76 per hour
