What are the responsibilities and job description for the Service ii equipment position at Municipality of Anchorage (AK)?

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1547 (Technicians) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1547 (Technicians).

DEPARTMENT : Public Transportation

HOURS OF WORK : Shifts vary; 40 hours per week between Monday through Sunday

LOCATION : 3701 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue Assisting mechanics and mechanics leadmen as well as independent inspection, diagnosis and performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs deemed critical to preserving the operational and / or safety integrity of Public Transportation Department buses and other Public Transportation Department vehicles and equipment.

Services brakes, suspension, electrical, and drive system components; Clean and maintain shop work areas; Respond to vehicle service calls in the field;

inspect, mount and replace tires; Perform other related duties as assigned.High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and completion of an approved journeyman mechanic apprenticeship program and two (2) years of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience.

Must possess the following

  • At time of application - Valid driver's license - Note : Current valid driver's license MUST be attached to the application in order to be considered.
  • At time of hire - Valid State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction.

Applicants with a Restriction of "N-No Class A and B Passenger Vehicle" and Restriction of "L-Vehicles Without Air Brake Systems Only" are not eligible

  • Valid State of Alaska OSHA forklift operator card at time of hire.
  • At time of application - Valid driver's license - Note : Current valid driver's license MUST be attached to the application in order to be considered.
  • At time of hire - Valid State of Alaska Driver's License & State of Alaska Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP)
  • Within 120 days (approx. 4 months) - must obtain a valid State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction.

Special Requirements

Incumbents are required to furnish hand tools common to the trade.

Preferences

  • Experience with service and / or repair
  • Experience with web-based software from Cummins, Allison, and Ford.
  • OSHA 30 hour General Industry certificate.
  • AssetWorks Academy for Government Fleet (Cummins or Allison module)
  • ASE Transit Bus Certification

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's State of Alaska driver's license & State of Alaska Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) or State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction;

and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his / her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.

As a condition of employment, the person selected for the position will be required to successfully complete a medical physical examination including full functional capacity evaluation with audiogram and also a drug screening prior to beginning work and will be subject to future periodic drug and alcohol tests on a random basis without advance notice.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the satisfactory review and completion of the Previous Employer Alcohol & Drug Test Information Forms.

Names, addresses, and phone numbers for positions that required Department of Transportation testing for the last two years will be required in compliance with 40.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a valid OSHA forklift operator card within 90 days of hire.

All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

Military Service Interview Preference

Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran.

The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.

Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.

30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment.

The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual's command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service.

The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
