About the role
Muon is looking for an Avionics FPGA Engineer to join our satellite and sensors development team. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated versatile FPGA engineer with significant previous experience developing radio FPGA DSP pipelines and associated hardware and software.
Responsibilities
Work with internal teams and external customers to push the limit of what’s possible in Earth sensing and in-satellite compute
Be part of the team that defines Muon’s satellite communications, science radio, and sensing architectures
Translate mission needs, concepts, and requirements into robust designs
Collaborate with HW and SW team members to bring up brand new spacecraft systems that include FPGAs
Enable software-defined radio and imaging capabilities for Earth sensing
Design signal processing pipelines, control logic, data routing fabric, data processing accelerators, and high-speed interfaces like Ethernet, PCIe, MIPI, and JESD204b
Develop reusable internal IP cores and design patterns
Integrate FPGA designs alongside avionics processors and microcontrollers
Set best practices and design patterns in FPGA RTL for the team
Supervise and guide external engineering resources and vendors
Qualifications
B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field
4 years experience as a FPGA engineer in a team environment
Strong Verilog programming experience, with SystemVerilog experience desired
Familiarity with device-level communication buses (e.g. UART/SPI/I2C)
Experience implementing and debugging high-speed digital communications (Gigabit Ethernet, PCIe, Aurora, JESD204b, MIPI, etc)
Scripting to automate building and testing FPGA designs
Experience working in a linux development environment
Read and understand HW datasheets
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Excited to work in a fast-paced environment with new challenges every week
Nice-to-have Skills
Knowledge of radio standards and signaling such as GPS, DVB-S, GSM, LTE, etc
Expertise in embedded firmware development in C/C
Experience with digital hardware design and/or RF circuit design
Interfacing to high-speed analog data converters with JESD204b
Interfacing and processing data from image sensors

At Muon Space salary is only part of our total compensation package. In addition to salary, Muon Space provides equity compensation as well as benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401k retirement plan, life insurance, and an employee development program.
The salary range for this role is $125K and $225k and will depend on a candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience as determined during the interview process.
