What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Category Manager position at Murphy USA?
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Associate Category Manager will be responsible for the merchandising initiatives of all Murphy USA locations. The Associate Category Manager will determine the merchandise product mix, choose all fixtures and determine placement, set merchandise pricing, negotiate rates for all locations. They will be responsible for all programs and initiatives for all assigned product categories and services and any new merchandising programs. The Associate Category Manager will generate reports and analyze the product mix in locations and continuously change the product mix to maximize sales and margin.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Analyze pricing for optimal profit and then plan and execute pricing changes for designated categories in different markets.
2. Analyze customer market research data to optimize sales and margin.
3. Analyze current product mix for necessary changes.
4. Negotiate lower prices and contracts of $10MM in quantity rebates.
5. Develop and communicate market materials, programs and tools for the field to maximize sales and profits.
6. Negotiate supplier support and additional discounting to assist in the planning, development and communication of the field sales incentive programs/contests.
7. Conduct store visits with supplier partners & Operations to evaluate performance to plans. Conduct frequent competitor store visits to evaluate competitive environment.
8. Create strategies and initiatives and develop goals for assigned merchandise categories.
9. Research vendors and competitors for new ideas.
10. Select product mix and define product placement. Select fixture and determine fixture placement. Develop and maintain planograms for designated categories.
11. Work with Maintenance, Construction and Procurement to determine optimal equipment and service Contracts for all equipment. Collaborate with operations on execution of programs.
12. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Broad knowledge of such fields as accounting, marketing, business administration, finance, etc. Equivalent to a four year college degree, plus 3 years related experience and/or training, and 2 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
