Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities
Working collaboratively in implementation of University retention and student success initiatives. Assisting with the implementation of and advising in the first-year academic advising model.
Assist the Coordinator of First-Year Academic Advising in the implementation of effective first-year academic advising programs across all academic colleges/schools.
Assist the Coordinator for First-Year Academic Advising with managing, coordinating, and improving programs and services for all first-time full-time first-year students.
Work with one-two academic colleges/schools to provide advising to first-year students.
Serve on the First-Year Experience Committee.
Assist in managing transition programs for first-time full-time first-year students including the recruitment selection, and training of first-year academic advisors.
Provide individual academic advising for first-year students.
Provide direct service support to individual first-year students on matters related to transition, academic progress, major selection, and student development.
Advocate for students from all backgrounds to ensure they receive the benefits of support services offered.
Collaborate with academic, student affairs and enrollment management departments to promote awareness and importance of retention initiatives.
Support initiatives coordinated by the Center for Student Engagement and Success.
Assist with other program initiatives as directed by the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
Minimum Education Requirements
Master’s degree in an appropriate field is required (higher education, student personnel, counseling, or other related programs).
Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements
Experience in or an understanding of academic advising or serving in a mentor role for college students.
Demonstrate ability to quickly and thoroughly gain knowledge of academic programs, general studies requirements, and requirements that must be met for full admission to the university.
Possess excellent written and oral/interpersonal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
Experience in dealing with confidential information.
Knowledge and usage of computer-based software such as Starfish, Degree-works and Banner
Preferred Education and/or Experience Qualifications Physical Demands Work Hours
Some work on weekends and evenings required.
Minimum Salary $35,500 Maximum Salary $35,500
