What are the responsibilities and job description for the 3D Animator position at Mursion, Inc?
Position Overview: We are currently seeking an experienced MOCAP Character Animator to help with capturing mocap data and overseeing its production from suit -> final. This includes data organization, skeletal retargeting, data clean-up, data refinement, and hand keyframing of transitions, hands, and facial expressions. The ideal candidate will have a background in creating animation for game engines (Unity preferred), rigging, scripting, and be efficient at working independently.
This position is a full-time, salaried position reporting to the Creative Director. This is a remote position with the option to work out of our offices in San Francisco.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with motion capture shoots using Xsens / Perception Neuron tools set.
- Clean up, retarget, loop, optimize, and embellish realistic skeletal motion capture data.
- Using Mursion engine - set up state machines, configure assets, and tune transitions.
- Animate facial expressions and work with modelers to refine blendshape systems.
- Develop tools for the art team to optimize workflows.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of production experience as a Motion Capture Animator.
- Python, C# or similar scripting familiarity. (Provide examples in portfolio).

- Experience developing in the Unity game engine. (Character animation).
- Experience setting up/working with animation state machines.
- Mastery over MotionBuilder / Maya animation workflows.
- Xsens / Perception Neuron / Dynamixyz or comparable mocap systems.
- Experience and passion for facial animation and rigging.
- Strong understanding of game engine animation pipelines.
- Ability to quickly ramp up and learn new tools/software.
- Strong ability to set realistic time estimates and deliver accordingly.
- Clear communication skills with the ability to document procedures.
