SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Clinic Administrator and in conjunction with the Patient Services Manager, Referral Specialist facilities the flow of patient needs. The Referral Specialist provides excellent guest services to patients, community partners, agencies and families. The Referral Specialist ensures that all issues are appropriately resolved or escalated.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Able to assist Clerical Support Staff.
Responsible for utilizing EHR and Practice Management systems efficiently and with accuracy.
Creates a welcoming environment.
Maintains a neat and clean work area.
Assists patients with general information, as well as directing them to the appropriate area.
Performs data entry, create various logs, and compile information as needed
Maintains a courteous, helpful and conscientious attitude in dealing with co-workers and patients and their families ensuring professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
Performs data entry and assist with clerical duties as assigned.
Makes referral appointments with appropriate specialist or testing office while patient is present or, if not possible, may follow up with patient after appointment is made.
Prepares appropriate paperwork for insurance authorization when needed and follows up to ensure the authorization is completed.
Ensures that referral information is notated on the patient encounter form for accurate data entry in to the referral log.
Answers telephone, checks and replies to voicemail messages.
Communicates to provider in a timely manner any outstanding issues related to the referral.
Enters data into patient electronic medical record when necessary.
Regular and prompt attendance at work.
All other duties assigned.

EDUCATION/ CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school Diploma or GED required. Registered or Certified Medical Assistant preferred. Customer service experience required. One year experience in a health care setting preferred. Computer and Medical Assistant experience preferred.
