What are the responsibilities and job description for the Solar Service Manager position at MVE Group Inc?

MVE Group is seeking a Solar Service Manager to safely support solar system troubleshooting activities on commercial solar projects, as well coordinating ongoing service and O&M work. Field work includes travel to each site, electrical troubleshooting (DC/AC), system monitoring, testing and inspection of new systems as well as troubleshooting communication and performance issues. Office work includes documentation management, coordination and scheduling. This position would also look for future growth opportunities to expand the Solar Service business and grow the Solar top line revenue, as well as work to maintain margins on Solar service work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Ensure all site work is conducted in a safe manner using proper PPE per task
  • Complete service reports and document information for each site
  • Troubleshoot monitoring and communications configuration on site utilizing various computer interface programs
  • Travel to and inspect commercial solar installations for mechanical quality, electrical soundness and reliability for 20 years of operation
  • Troubleshoot and drive corrective actions during performance validation for each site including component replacement
  • Troubleshoot and repair DC and AC electrical systems including testing for:
  • Open circuit voltage
  • Operating string current
  • IV curves
  • Insulation and resistance
  • Thermal imaging
  • Troubleshoot and repair string inverters, power meters
  • Track, communicate and report all field work in timely manner
  • Coordinate with the Project Team on items requiring escalation from construction or commissioning deliverables
  • Read drawing set and project test results to prepare for system inspection
  • Review Construction Quality Report and follow up on items requiring escalation
  • Monitor existing solar sites remotely, contact customers as needed for maintenance or preventative care.

Minimum requirements

  • Demonstrates safety, quality, and customer-first focus
  • Troubleshooting expertise with the ability to systematically approach issues, diagnose and correct the issue at hand
  • Familiarity configuring communications and troubleshooting Ethernet, Modbus, and other computer networking connections
  • Practical experience with electrical wiring and basic construction practices
  • Proficiency with AC/DC multimeter and amp clamp, megger operation and electrical systems diagnostics
  • Successful experience working self-sufficiently with minimal or no supervision
  • Resourcefulness needed when dealing with products less familiar
  • Focused learner with new products and solutions
  • Ability to work under pressure and multi-task; in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Skills in the use of Word, Excel, and other common office software
  • Process-oriented and strong organizational skills with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Well-developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organization, as well as outside customers and vendors.
  • Comfortable working on various roofs. (Pitched / Flat)
  • Flexibility to work “out of town” for short durations
  • Answer the incoming phone calls and coordinate solar service inquiries/needs
  • Collects and organizes information from customers and other team members as it relates to the work order and other projects needed to be completed
  • Assist in organization and planning of work orders and projects
  • Communicates and updates customers on information related to their request, projects and work completed
  • Work with Project Management and Solar Team to schedule Solar Commissioning
  • Secure properly executed subcontract and purchase order agreements, insurance certificates and other documentation to protect the interest of the company
  • Create, Organize and manage customer folders and site maps for service preformed
  • Assist with close out of work orders and projects
  • Consolidate and collect accurate information from customers and other team members to assist in decision making, planning and coordinating
  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred requirements

  • Experience with an IV Curve tracer, IR camera and other testing equipment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to see the big picture, anticipate problems and how they will affect the customer/project, and proactively address these issues
  • IT knowledge and understanding different systems and how to troubleshoot
  • 5 years’ of industry experience, preferred
