About the Role

The Group Exercise Manager is responsible for developing and coordinating a state-of-the-art group exercise program for the members of the MVP Sports Clubs. Specific areas to include coordinating, scheduling, training, and evaluating a highly effective team of group exercise leaders. Ensuring the scheduling and delivery of cutting-edge group exercise programs. This position is a part of the Fitness Department.

Responsibilities 

  • Know, understand, and exemplify the MVP Sports Clubs Service Standards.
  • Ensures that all Team Members (in and out of their department) know, understand and exemplify the MVP Sports Clubs Service Standards.
  • Perform all team member appraisals in a timely manner. 
  • Maintains a quality fitness staff by hiring, training/orienting, evaluating, coaching, maintaining proper payroll records and critical statistic record keeping for club operations analysis.
  • Perform bi-annual observation and review of each group exercise instructors for performance quality and adherence to program specificity, including video review and personal feedback from instructor on their own class. 
  • Required to instruct a minimum of 2 classes per week and a maximum of 5 per week on average.
  • Required to meet deferred revenue goals and key performance indicators as determined by Fitness Manager through training, group exercise class instruction, and program class instruction.
  • Any combination of training, group exercise class, and program classes must not exceed 15 hours per week and 25 hours of admin time should consist of building instructors, planning the schedule, keeping accurate records and attending classes. 
  • Meets monthly with Director to be held accountable to monthly and quarterly team development, program development, program key performance indicators, monthly and quarterly revenue, personal development, client management/retention goals.  
  • Works with VP of Studios and Fitness to actively encourage, promote and deliver quality group exercise, sports performance, training services and other departmental products and programs to all members.
  • Assist club Director with Club events to actively promote member attendance and connection to the club with a goal of increasing retention.
  • Ensure the delivery of a diversified, quality group exercise program, including overseeing the implementation and management of the MOSSA program.
  • Evaluate each class instructor’s attendance numbers, set monthly goals to achieve best attendance possible for each class, re-evaluate and reset goals each quarter.
  • Effectively analyze and develop quarterly group exercise schedules that promote and grow membership attendance in both classes and the club, maintain quality control of group fitness products offered.  
  • Works with the Fitness Manager to educate all group exercise staff regarding the personal training program and the benefits of personal training.  Encourages staff to promote personal training among members in an appropriate manner.
  • Conducts a minimum of two (2) team meetings per year.
  • Maintains and achieves additional certifications/education and encourages staff to pursue additional certifications as needed.
  • Adheres to all departmental and program Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
  • Lead regular Service Game training sessions as directed by supervisor.
  • Maintain a neat and professional personal appearance, by wearing the MVP Sports Clubs uniform (see uniform matrix) and name badge. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements                                                                                                                               

  • College degree in a fitness related field preferred.
  • Certification through NASM, CPT required.  NASM, PES or CES, ACSM (HFI), NSCA (CSCS), NSCA (CPT), NATA (ATC), NPTI (National Personal Training Institute) or APTA (licensed physical therapist) accepted for initial hire.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience teaching various group exercise programs, with at least 1 year of supervisory responsibilities.
  • First Aid/CPR Training. In the event a team member is hired without CPR or First certifications, they will be required to attend MVP Sports Clubs in-house training to obtain this.
  • Communication and leadership skills needed to supervise and motivate a team of instructors.
  • Computer skills needed to utilize club and equipment software.
  • Must have the physical ability to substitute for staff as needed.
  • Physical Requirements:  Bend, stoop, crouch, climb, stand, sit and turn/pivot; Lift/lower, push, pull and carry up to 40 lbs; perform office tasks using simple hand grasping, fine hand manipulation and reach associated with assigned tasks such as paperwork, typing, and/or word processing, filing, calculating and use of telephone; See, hear, and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions.
