ROLE DESCRIPTION:
MY Project USA’s Summer Program Teacher’s Aid provides support for student learning with an instructor, prepares classroom materials with the teacher, assists with student management. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience with urban populations. The majority of youth that MYPUSA works with come from immigrant and refugee backgrounds as well as from underserved communities of color. This person will actively engage students in our programs who need assistance to improve their academic performance in any of the core or elective content courses required by the State of Ohio.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Actively engaging students in our academic programs to build relationships and provide tutoring assistance as needed.
- Support student learning with an instructor
- Prepare classroom materials with the teacher
- Assist with student management.
- Working with the academic team to create a culture within the program that prioritizes positive achievement and growth for students.
- Applying best practices to help motivate students to strive to meet their academic goals according to their potential.
- Providing instruction as needed and feedback to students regularly that promotes student growth
- Contacting the authorities if suspecting a youth is at risk in their home.
- Maintaining confidential data of all students served
PRIOR EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent,
- Experience working with youth preferred
- Comfortable working in a shifting environment.
- Experience with refugee, immigrant, and underserved communities preferred
- Experience with at-risk youth is a plus
- A passion for helping children to succeed
- Understanding of principles of effective student behavior management; ability to follow directions.
- No prior criminal offenses. Successfully pass FBI/BCI background check
- Understanding of when/how to apply Mandatory Reporting requirements.
PERSONAL SKILLS
- Ability to maintain emotional calm in difficult circumstances.
- Able to adjust and problem solve in unexpected situations
- Able to build trusting relationships with students and colleagues

WORK DEMANDS
- This position is part-time. Specific hours can be negotiated within the hours of the program setting.
- In-person/on-site at the designated setting
Job Type: Temporary
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

- Columbus, OH 43204: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
Experience:
- Childcare: 1 year (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- First Aid Certification (Preferred)
- CPR Certification (Preferred)
