Unit: ICU

The Registered Nurse (RN) will perform direct patient and delegation to licensed practical nurses and unit technicians and other staff as appropriate in providing care and comfort to the patients.   Knowledge and compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and guidelines relating to patient care will be maintained.

(20%)* Plans the program for action (objectives) by assisting the Nurse Manager / Nursing Program Coordinator / Program Manager / Program Director in developing, reviewing, and revising unit-specific policies/procedures, objectives, resource management, and purpose. 

(20%)* Implements the coordination of resources and leads personnel and activities to accomplish objectives by motivating, educating, guiding and counseling. 

(20%)* Evaluates by measuring outcomes against set standards, reporting results and taking appropriate corrective action on potential or actual variances. 

(20%)* Self Management - Holds self accountable for delivery of responsible care, demonstrates effective communication skills and interpersonal relationships.   

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participates in Performance Improvement as required by the Health System and the job description. 

Understands and is accountable for the Health System's customer service standards.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:

Basic Life Support required.

State of Michigan Registered Nurse required

Associates Degree required.

Minimum of one year nursing experience on one of the Medical Center's nursing unit (except Rehabilitation Unit) which has a Permanent Charge Nurse Position open. 

Demonstrated leadership skills and the potential for management ability as evidenced by the following within the last 12 months: Punctuality, attendance, and job performance within acceptable parameters as identified in Nursing Department Policies and Procedures (no current active disciplinary action on file). 

Completion of mandatory and/or voluntary competency/in-service/continuing education programs.

When the above qualifications, 1-3, are equal in the judgment of the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), then the nurse with the greatest RN seniority will be considered the candidate of choice, per Article 7.02.A. 

Operates equipment as outlined on orientation checklists, policy and procedures. 

Participates in equipment inservices and competencies as they relate to role expectations.

Performs job skills outlined on orientation checklist as they relate to role expectations. 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.  

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. 

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.  

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s). 

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time.

May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.  

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. 

Must follow MidMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.  

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake. 

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. 

May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.  

Physical Demand Level: Medium.  Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.
