Opportunity Summary

The Student is responsible for providing support to the on-shift operations and maintenance personnel in the operation and maintenance of the facility. Will occasionally function in an APO role or maintenance helper role for mechanical, electrical or controls technicians, depending on plant need.

Primary Functions

  • Is knowledgeable and adheres to all safety procedures including lock-out/tag-out and the use of personal protective equipment
  • Operates equipment safely and with the intent to minimize risk to personnel and equipment
  • Operates/maintains project equipment at maximum operating efficiency
  • Provides assistance with project clean-up and housekeeping activities as required
  • Supports performance of necessary maintenance activities
  • Writes and maintains equipment logs, operational logs, and other reports as required in a clear professional manner
  • Is able to read, understand and respond to written instructions and logbook notations
  • Participates in daily preventative and corrective maintenance activities in a safe, effective, and timely manner
  • Understands and follows regulatory requirements
  • Establishes good working relations with teammates, team leaders, project technical experts, and engineers
  • Operates station vehicles such as forklifts, trucks, overhead cranes, and mobile cranes
  • Demonstrates ability to use project drawings, blueprints, and manuals
  • Demonstrates knowledge of equipment layout and project systems
  • Reports upset conditions or other anomalies in project status to the Shift Supervisor
  • Make entries in the Operating Log
  • Performs emergency operations to maintain electric service and safeguard station equipment
  • Provides information to CRO to effect changes in project conditions and chemistry
  • Performs routine equipment rounds and inspections in compliance with established operating procedures
  • Performs other duties as required

NAES Safe

Safety is a core value of NAES and as a condition of employment, all employees are expected to be mentally alert and work safely at all times. Additionally, employees are required to adhere to all safety warnings and posted safety signs whenever on company property. Furthermore, employees must follow all NAES safety rules and procedures. Effectiveness in carrying out this responsibility is part of the evaluation of each employee’s performance.

Working Relationships

The Student reports to an Operations or Maintenance Supervisor. The Student may also give information to maintenance personnel on matters pertaining to project operations.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time requiring stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.

Physical activities may include:

  • Extensive walking
  • Using hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate tools or controls
  • Reaching with hands and arms
  • Climb or balance
  • Stoop, kneel, crawl

Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.

Working conditions in a power plant environment may include:

  • Extreme hot / cold temperature conditions
  • Confined spaces
  • Working at extreme heights and on grating
  • Work around heavy equipment, pressurized and energized equipment
  • Indoor and outdoor work
  • Use of all personal protective equipment
  • Respirator qualified

Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and project conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required. Rotating shift work is required.

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
