Company Description: NAMI San Diego/Imperial Counties (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a nonprofit organization that provides free education, support services, and advocacy to improve the quality of life of everyone affected by mental illnesses.
Primary Responsibilities/Function: The Community Navigator works on site at the North Coastal Live Well Center at 1701 Mission Avenue Oceanside, CA 92054. The Community Navigator responds to inquiries regarding mental health and substance use disorder resources via Friends Resource Helpline- a web-based telephone service open to the public. Provides training, technical support and coordination for volunteer and intern NAMI Friends Resource HelpLine staff. Helps ensure validity of community resource information directories. Works in collaboration with Outreach Coordinator. Serves as liaison and connection to community partners and service providers in North County for NAMI SD/IC.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Answers live calls from the public.
- Listens to voice mails.
- Returns emails and calls in order of direct need.
- Reviews and documents contacts with help seekers.
- Proficiently uses Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook, Zoom Meetings, Zoom Phones and Teams daily.
- Participates in the training and development of volunteers and interns.
- Helps maintain NAMI program data reporting requirements.
- Ensures community resource directories are up to date.
- Works with the Outreach Programs Coordinator, Outreach Programs Manager and all NAMI SD/IC staff to ensure the integrity and accountability of community programs and relations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Accountability: Reports to NAMI SD/IC Outreach Program Manager .

Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma.
- Farmiliar with mental health and social services systems of San Diego region
- Self-identified as a peer or family member with lived experience
- Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing using lived experience as a peer.
- Grounded in personal recovery.
Skill Requirements:
- Proficient with data entry.
- Advanced ability with technology: applications, cloud-based phone system, audio/video meeting platforms such as Zoom and Teams for communication.
- Ability to mentor volunteers and interns with enthusiasm.
- Highly skilled in facilitating training on Zoom and Teams applications.
- Practices professional boundaries and demonstrates ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Added plus: bilingual/bicultural in Spanish, Vietnamese, Tagalog or other Asian language.
Employment Requirements:
- Must be able to pass criminal background check.
- Must be willing and able to drive personal car, and have valid California Driver's License and comprehensive automobile insurance as required by law.
- Must have satisfactory driving record, and provide authorization to enroll in the Department of Motor Vehicles' Employee Pull Notice Program. By participating in this program, NAMI San Diego promotes driver safety through monitoring the driving records of its employees who transport clients.
