TITLE: 3rd - 5th Grade Teachers
REPORTS TO: Principal Becky Janda and Assistant Principal Donna Johnson
JOB SUMMARY: To lead third, fourth or fifth grade students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth in a safe classroom environment in alignment with the goals of the School, District, and State.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's degree or higher.
2. Valid Massachusetts teacher license covering appropriate area of responsibility (or ability to obtain).
3. Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.
4. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups.
5. Experience with, or willing to learn school related computer applications.
6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Collaborates effectively with the grade five team, literacy and math specialists, ESL teachers, special education teachers, and school counselors to maximally support intentional teaching and learning.
•Plans individually or cooperatively a program of study that meets the individual needs,
interests, diverse backgrounds, and abilities of students in alignment with the grade five standards.
•Creates a classroom environment that is culturally responsive and an intellectually and physically safe learning environment where individual differences are accepted and celebrated. Maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner, holding students accountable to classroom and school expectations.
•Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects.
•Clearly communicates these objectives to students verbally and in writing.
•Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting the communicated objectives and the individual needs of the students.
•Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, provides actionable feedback to learners, and provides progress reports as required.
•Assesses the learning strengths and growth areas of students on a regular basis, seeking the collaboration of colleagues/district specialists as appropriate.
•Communicates with colleagues, students and parents on a regular basis.
•Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for support personnel and school volunteers when applicable.
•Uses appropriate technology to support the teaching and learning process.
•Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records and reports as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
•Attends staff meetings and contractual extended work day meetings.
•Meet all school and district policy requirements regarding ethical and professional conduct.
•Recognizes overt indicators of student's distress or abuse and takes appropriate action based on school procedures and law.
•Establishes an appropriate testing environment and ensures test security as required.
