Nappi's Beer Area Sales Manager is responsible to lead the Independent retail beer sales channel team to drive sales, achieve goals, and execute on objectives. Responsible to recommend, develop, implement, and monitor effective strategies to meet all Nappi sales, financial, quality, and service objectives within an assigned territory with a focus on independent on and off-premise customers.
Responsibilities
- Manages supplier programs by developing, cultivating, and maintaining strong relationships throughout the industry.
- Regularly performs quality evaluations and customer visits to conduct market surveys, verify execution of initiatives and requirements, and identify future sales growth opportunities with customers and showcase new items for implementation in resets.
- Participates with VP of Beer Sales and other leaders to conduct business reviews, sales analysis, planning, and opportunity identification with suppliers and customers to accomplish volume and profit goals.
- Leads, coaches, mentors, and educates assigned team members on Nappi products, brand priorities, and standards. Proactively holds team members accountable for execution of plans, achievement of results, and adherence to instructions, standards, regulations, policies, procedures, and overall expectations. Coaches, counsels, and documents as appropriate.
- Communicates priorities for monthly/quarterly/annual objectives for Nappi’s beer portfolio including pricing plans, promotion calendars, merchandising, and customer/supplier programs to promote new and existing items and expansion of business for accounts.
- Develops and implements sales performance metrics to track initiatives. Analyzes data to monitor sales team progress and to aid goal-setting, profit calculation, and understanding of marketplace activity.
- Creates and fosters relationships amongst team, assigned accounts, and supplier representatives. Prioritizes and coordinates supplier ‘work-withs’ and presentations/events for relevant customers.
- Executes new product and program launches; assists with managing merchandising pre-plans, scheduling, and resources.
- Prepares and distributes monthly sales reports recapping incentive programs, performance and volume goals and ensures the data integrity.
- Communicates channel forecast and coordinates with Purchasing to plan/monitor inventory management and prevent out-of-stocks and unnecessary transfer/shipping costs.
- Proactively identifies and recommends opportunities to increase sales, profitability, efficiency and service levels. Provides feedback to VP Beer Sales on market trends/issues, changes, supplier, inventory, and sales performance issues.
- Coordinates/collaborates with purchasing, support staff, and Operations’ teams to ensure ordering, pricing, portfolio inventory management, and customer delivery routes are optimized. Adjusts sales’ routes as necessary to align with objectives.
- Conducts regular scheduled meetings with team to communicate/review progress on objectives, priorities, and new initiatives. Contributes in planning of, and participates in General Sales Meetings, trade shows, market surveys and other events.
- Covers Sales routes; develops and submits customer orders as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned or necessary.
Education/Experience/Skills
- 4 years of solid sales or marketing management experience within the beer distribution, supplier or other related industry environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in a business or marketing related field is preferred.
- Solid leadership ability, strategic experience, proven analytical decision-making and problem-solving skills, strong organizational and prioritization ability, innovative, and a good team player.
- Experience in developing sales strategies and performance metrics. Proficient at calculating commissions, percentages, and reviewing comparative sales data for analysis.
- Goal oriented self-motivated individual
- Excellent negotiation and sales skills; demonstrated experience with supplier and off-premise contract negotiations is preferred.
- Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Adaptable and ability to effectively interact with a variety of internal/external customer groups and varying personality types.
- Solid computer skill experience, preferably Microsoft Office, including high proficiency with Excel.
- Solid understanding of beer including styles, basic brewing processes, product and food pairing techniques, etc.
- Valid Maine driver’s license and safe driving record; must be maintained for this position.
Physical and Mental Demands
The physical and mental demands described below are representative of those that most commonly will be encountered in this position yet are not all inclusive.
Physical and mental ability to perform the duties of this job include daily driving, walking, sitting, standing, bending/stooping, climbing (mainly stairs, occasional ladders, etc.) and reaching. Lifting/carrying of up to 65 lbs. from ground to above head levels; and pulling/pushing/maneuvering of up to 160 lbs., without mechanical assistance, is required.
Occasional kneeling, crouching, and overhead to below knee work with arms extended is required. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 160 lbs. from floor to shoulder level using proper body mechanics. Occasional work in cold and wet environments (35-40F) is necessary. Infrequent work in hot (70 - 90F) and wet environments may be necessary. Exposure to mold/mildew is possible.
Visual acuity, hearing, dexterity coordination, and cognitive ability sufficient for communicating efficiently and effectively with others; driving, reading, communicating, and use of telephone, keyboard, computer/tablet and other electronic systems, equipment, and documents is required.
Cognitive, intellectual and mental ability to concentrate on details, and to perform more than one task at a time, including when under significant time and other pressures. Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with customers, co-workers and all levels of personnel.
Frequent in-state, occasional out of state travel, including multi-day out of state and/or abroad travel is required. Ability to work extended, flexible, and odd hours to accomplish business and customer needs including occasional evenings, and/or weekends. Additional hours required during the peak seasons.
