Nardin Academy is seeking candidates for a Director of Student Support Services.

The Director of Student Support Services will be responsible for implementing and managing effective, compliant, and cost-effective support services for students. The director will serve as the point person for all support service matters for the Academy.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage support service eligibility process, including chairing team meetings (annual, initial, reevaluation and progress update).
  • Educate faculty on best practices and policies around RTI, eligibility process, etc.
  • Coordinate programs and placement.
  • Collaborate with Buffalo Public Schools regularly.
  • Ensure IEPs meet all standards, are written to reflect best practice, reflect high quality programming and are implemented with integrity.
  • Create Accommodation Plans in conjunction with our support service teams.
  • Work with school-based teams to develop and implement efficient and effective service delivery models reflecting best practice.
  • Manage complex and challenging cases, by maintaining effective parent, staff, advocate and outside evaluator contact.
  • Collaborate with the Principals to maintain a Response to Intervention program and co-teaching model in the school.
  • Plan for and contribute to effective transitions for students and their families.
  • Provide teachers with consultation regarding program modifications, behavior contracts, co-teaching, and cooperative learning.
  • Consult with support services teachers and general education teachers regarding students of need.
  • Attend divisional support services meetings as necessary.
  • Work with the School Psychologist and School Counselor to coordinate and confer with all outside agencies working with students (CPS, counseling agencies, hospitals, courts, and other service provision agencies).
  • Process/manage documentation for all external organizations.
  • Maintain updated student data in conjunction with support services teachers.
  • Attend training and conferences as required.
  • Supervise and evaluate student support services teachers, school psychologists, and school counselors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education required.
  • Master’s degree in special education or working towards (verified) is preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience working in Special Education management is strongly preferred.

Working Conditions

The work environment is a standard classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions and/or outdoor weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision.

Salary

$78,000 - $82,000 per year commensurate with experience
