Description

Job Title: Clinical Director

Location: 170 Lexington Road, Billerica MA and 10 Oak Park Drive, Bedford MA

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:15 am – 3:15 pm

Supervisors: Director of Clinical Practice, Director of Clinical Operations, Executive Program Director

 

Position Summary: The Clinical Director develops and provides oversight for the academic, life skills, and behavioral programming of 8 to 12 students, each of whom receives one-on-one intervention throughout the school day.  The Clinical Director provides support to the student’s school TEAM, collaborates with the family/caregivers, and works directly with the student’s school district.  The Clinical Director reports to the Director of Clinical Practice and the Director of Clinical Operations.  The Clinical Director could work at either of our 2 school locations (10 Oak Park or 170 Lexington); this current posting is for supporting cases between the 2 sites depending on the current needs of the organization. The Clinical Director will be expected to work a minimum of 7 hours per a day in the building between the hours of 7:45-3:30 with one work from home one day per week. 

 

Responsibilities:

Position Specific Responsibilities

  • Developing each student’s customized academic, life skills, and behavioral curriculum and associated teaching procedures.
  • Writing each student’s IEP in full
  • Overseeing and organizing the entire 3-year re-evaluation process for each student as needed
  • Reviewing daily progress data and progress reports on students and incorporating them into programming decisions and development of teaching plans.
  • Monitoring the data record keeping and collection processes and ensuring that the progress reports are an accurate reflection of the student’s development.
  • Serving as the academic and behavioral liaison with each student’s sending School District.
  • Conducting monthly reviews of each student’s programming in a clinic meeting incorporating the parents/guardians, and Lead teacher as well as the student, to review and revise curriculum and behavioral procedures.  Documenting decisions made for each student and working with the Lead Therapist to ensure implementation.
  • Interacting with parents/caregivers to ensure that their priorities for the student are addressed, but also integrated appropriately into NLG’s mission and general program model.   
  • Provides parents/caregivers with opportunities to observe their child, addressing their questions and concerns in a way that supports the relationship between NLG and the family, while also provides a realistic vision for the student. 
  • Initiates support from Behavior Council when they have identified recurring behavioral difficulties or issues affecting learning.
  • Is able to integrate suggestions from Behavior Council into the student’s plan and independently assess outcomes
  • Is able to initiate and complete functional assessments and the development and implementation of behavior plans; monitors behavior data and trains staff in the plan.
  • Collaborates with Speech/OT/PT consultants in development and monitoring of student programming
  • Collaborates with vocational department consultants in development and monitoring of student programming as applicable based on student caseload
  • Provides oversight and support to therapists on the student’s team, including performing regular observations and assessments, providing frequent feedback, responding to questions and inquiries.
  • Works with the Scheduling and Allocations Coordinator to identify appropriate team members for student teams and training needs for those staff
  • Ensures that each Therapist for each student team is appropriately trained and delivering quality programming with consistency.  Addresses performance issues as they arise.
  • Ensures that each of their students has the materials and set-up they need by providing oversight to the Lead Therapist. 
  • Serves as a resource for the Therapists in the classroom on questions of program implementation, and immediate next steps.
  • Identifies issues that need to be resolved in order to best support NLG culture and student success and brings those issues immediately, in a constructive way, to the appropriate place.
  • Serves as an observer and assistant when behavior management procedures are implemented.
  • Works on the schedule 1:1 with students as required by our schedule on an as needed basis
  • Serves as a driver of own vehicle for student outings if required.

 

General Responsibilities

  • Following NLG’s emergency procedures (administering SOLVE strategies, First Aid or CPR), whenever needed.
  • Adhering to NLG’s policies and procedures expected for full time staff.
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of all students within NLG and while out in the community.
  • Attendance at the following:
    • Staff Meetings: All staff members are required to attend any mandatory staff meetings as scheduled which may be before, during, or after program hours..
    • Trainings: All staff members are required to participate in a minimum of 24 training hours each year. Staff will be assigned mandatory trainings to complete on Paycom. Additional trainings that fulfill this requirement can be found on Paycom, NLG University, and occasionally are provided by external trainers on the half days.
  • Maintenance of the following certifications:
    • CPR & First Aid
      • The initial and renewal trainings are provided by NLG. The initial training occurs during the Orientation week. Renewal trainings are communicated by NLG’s Nursing Department as necessary.
    • SOLVE   (see Physical Job Capabilities)
      • The initial and renewal trainings are provided by NLG. The initial 16-20 hour training occurs within the first 3 months of employment. Staff members are expected to participate in an annual 1.5 hour refresher course to be scheduled via Paycom.
    • Any other certifications/licenses as required per the position qualifications

Supervision and Performance Assessment:

  • Nashoba Learning Group adheres to the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis in its management of employees as well as in its teaching of children.  Performance requirements are clearly specified, performance is measured frequently, feedback is given immediately and mastery of particular skills allows access to higher-level skills.  Reinforcement is tied to performance in the form of pay, professional development opportunities, and recognition.
  • This position will be evaluated/assessed annually by the Director of Clinical Practice, Director of Clinical Operations, and/or Executive Program Director on general performance, cooperation, and teamwork.

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • The Clinical Director will have a Master’s degree or above
  • The Clinical Director will be a Massachusetts Certified Special Needs Teacher, preference for certification in Intensive Special Needs, or be in a program to obtain this certification and be on an approved ESE waiver
  • The Clinical Director will be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
  • The Clinical Director will have a minimum of 4 years’ experience operating independently as a BCBA developing academic and behavioral curriculum for students programming
    • At least two references that will attest to the staff’s interpersonal skills, energy, work ethic, ability to work on a team, leadership skills, integrity, and ability to accept and learn from feedback
    • Satisfactory results for new hire and recurring background and CORI check
    • A driver’s license in good standing
  • Thorough knowledge of NLG’s policies and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of NLG’s daily operations and guidelines

 

Physical Job Capabilities:

Physical Job Requirements of this job include:

  • Physically capable of keeping students/members safe and in close proximity at all times, particularly during outings
  • Safely implement crisis prevention techniques and restraining members 50 pounds up to and in excess of 125 pounds when necessary

 

Physical Movements Required for Safe Implementation of Crisis Prevention Techniques:

  • Quick and abrupt movements of upper and lower body (moving quickly, brisk and vigorous use of hands and arms)
  • Rotating upper torso movements
  • Arm and hand movements to grasp, range of motion movement with upper body and arms
  • Balance
  • Lifting and lowering (bending at knees repeatedly)
  • Prolonged duration of exertion with both upper and lower body, being in one position for periods of time
