Operates industrial forklift truck to perform material handling assignments. Identify and transport material to and from storage areas, machines, loading docks, and / or trucks.

Works under general supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following . Other duties may be assigned.

  • Obtains copy of production schedule or shipping order and transports material or equipment to and from designated areas in the plant.
  • Identifies many types of raw material, in process or finished product, equipment, or processing materials. Check identification of materials to be moved, cross-references with production schedule or shipping schedule, and moves to required location.

Reports inconsistencies or problems to supervisor.

  • Familiarizes self with productive capacity of machines or loading schedule of shipping services to assure prompt delivery of required items to proper destination, so that equipment does not shut down for lack of supply.
  • Keeps tally or count of product moved and reports to production planning department.
  • Removes empty skids or pallets and stacks in designated area.
  • Must perform preventive maintenance on forklift truck, i.e., changing propane tank or batteries, change oil and water, etc.

Reports mechanical or electrical difficulties to supervisor.

  • May also use other equipment.
  • May handle and dump scrap materials as needed.
  • Keep work areas clean and orderly. Responsible for conducting all works in a safe manner.
  • May perform other duties as requested.
  • May participate on project teams as requested.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED : Satisfactorily passes forklift driver test.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS : Valid state motor vehicle operator's license. Ability to keep high degree of attention for prevention of injury to others.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED :

  • Basic Math : The ability to add, subtract, multiply or divide. Determine the number of individual things in a unit or group.

  • Lifting Frequency : Medium heavy lifting 80 lbs. maximum with continuous lifting and / or carrying objects with average weight of 40 lbs.
  • Vision : Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Repetitive Hand Action : Firm grasping - the ability to exert sufficient grip to pick-up a case of 12 oz. soft drinks or to pick-up a bowling ball.

Requires approximate grip strength of 45-60 lbs. on a hand dynamometer.
