Medical Laboratory Technician Schedule:
- Monday - Friday, 9 hours between 6:00am and 6:30pm, to include a 1-hr unpaid lunch.
Medical Laboratory Technician Responsibilities:
- Works under the clinical supervision of a lead Medical Technologist, performing a full range of medical laboratory tests independently in various areas.
- Recognizes and resolves problems, ensuring the technical and scientific accuracy of tests and procedures performed.
- Engages with clinical staff to request new specimens if deemed unsuitable for testing and prepares specimens for analysis.
- Supports a comprehensive Quality Control program, performing initial review of data, identifying departures from expected results, and taking corrective actions.
- Reviews patient results, identifies unusual values, and initiates appropriate follow-up procedures for correction.
- Operates and maintains clinical laboratory instrumentation, performs preventive maintenance, troubleshoots, and acts as the key operator for assigned instruments.
Medical Laboratory Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: The medical laboratory technicians shall have a certificate or higher level of training as a graduate from a civilian or military medical laboratory technician program. The training/education program shall be accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or educational program acceptable to the American Medical Technologist (AMT).
- Experience: Minimum 24 months full-time experience within the last 36 months
- Licensure: Must have an active, unrestricted Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Association of Biochemists (AAB) or American Medical Technologist (AMT).
- Life Support Certification: Possess a current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
- Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
