Job Summary

The National Ability Center (NAC) offers adaptive outdoor recreation summer camps for children and adults (6 ) in Park City, Utah. For campers who live in Salt Lake City or in other parts of Utah, transportation may be a potential barrier for attending, so we offer a camp transportation shuttle from Salt Lake City to Park City each day of day camp. The Summer Camp Shuttle Driver works to safely transport campers, interns, and staff of all abilities to and from the National Ability Center ranch each day that camp runs while communicating with our facilities department to make sure that the vehicle maintains operational. A primary function of this and every other job at the National Ability Center is to ensure that each participant, volunteer, guest, and visitor of the National Ability Center receives the highest caliber of service.

Requirements

Major Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Attend and engage in all required training(s)
  • Adapt to and problem-solve unexpected changes· 
  • Operate the fleet of National Ability Center vehicles (15-passenger buses with wheel-chair lift systems)
  • Work and communicate with campers, guardians, caretakers, interns, and co-staff of various ages and ability levels clearly and effectively on a daily basis
  • Ensure that the shuttle vehicle is properly filled with gas before and after shifts
  • Conduct inspections of National Ability Center vehicles before and after driving and ensure to communicate with facilities staff regarding vehicle maintenance needs
  • Ensure passenger safety when driving participants, guardians, caretakers, interns, and/or co-staff and follow safety laws and regulations
  • Clear the vehicle of trash and items left behind each day
  • Participate fully as a member of the National Ability Center staff team
  • Comply with National Ability Center safety and health policies and procedures
  • Perform additional duties as identified or assigned
  • Occasional weekend, holiday, and after-hours work required

    

Required Knowledge and Qualifications
  • 18 years of age or older
  •  Availability for full camp season including required pre-season training (May – August) *Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Camp Program Manager and must be agreed upon prior to start of employment
  • Valid Driver’s License; must verify own auto insurance*Will be required to pass a Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) physical and gain approval for driving the National Ability Center’s fleet of accessible vehicles (15-passenger buses with wheelchair lift systems)
  • Current CPR and First Aid training or higher
  • Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities, children, or in an educational/social service environment is preferred
  • Ability to lift adaptive equipment up to 50 lbs. preferred
  • Ability to lift and transfer participants to and from adaptive equipment, wheelchairs, etc. preferred
  • Commitment to a positive, fun, and team-oriented working environment
  • Excellent teamwork and multitasking and problem-solving skills
  • Skills in independent schedule and time management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Able to communicate and work effectively with individuals of all abilities
  • Ability to positively receive job coaching for personal development
  • Must pass employment background check every two years
