Job Posting for Heliophysics Science: Magnetic Field and Plasma-Measurement Techniques at National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
These techniques are constantly being updated and developed, and contributions from Associateship applicants would be particularly welcome. The instrumentation currently in use on the Voyager, WIND, Geotail, and Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft include ultralightweight, ultralow-power, low-noise, wide-range magnetometers developed within the Laboratory for Extraterrestrial Physics. Continuing efforts are being made to further improve the performance and reliability characteristics of these experiments by appropriate design. Plasma instrumentation is aimed at obtaining the best possible measurements of the three-dimensional velocity-distribution function consistent with time, weight, and power and at reducing as far as possible the effects of spacecraft potential and optimizing detector intracalibration.
