Job Posting for Internal Communications Manager at National Aquarium
JOB SUMMARY:
The internal communications manager will help us keep our most important audiences—our employees, volunteers and in-building business partners—informed and motivated. We are looking for an internal communications manager who can enhance our organizational communications strategy, bridging informational gaps across our teams, creating a strong, knowledge-based foundation for culture change. The ideal candidate will insist on the highest standards, dive deep into details, take action and demonstrate a sense of ownership, looking for common threads between projects. They’ll embrace ambiguity and be able to quickly get up to speed on complex issues, anticipate questions or reactions, and quickly prepare relevant communications. This new role within the organization will play a critical role in the rollout of our newly evolved mission, vision, values and strategic objectives for the National Aquarium.
Essential Job Functions:
Lead the development of a comprehensive, data-driven organizational communications strategy, incorporating identified areas of need from the Aquarium’s operational and strategic plans.
Execute the implementation of the organizational communications strategy, ensuring we’re consistently communicating across the organization’s priority channels and keeping key stakeholders engaged and informed.
Support ongoing major touchpoints with employees, volunteers and in-building business partners— including All Hands meetings, quarterly leadership meetings and company-wide updates and announcements—all with an eye towards building trust through open communication and transparency.
Work closely with cross-departmental cohort to include the VP of strategic alignment, DEIJ director and OD partner to drive the organization’s strategic and operational plans.
Serve as an internal resource for key stakeholders who contribute regularly to organizational communications, ensuring they align with the overarching strategy and adhere to best practices as they continue to evolve.
Build and maintain close relationships with teams across the organization to learn the many aspects of their work, better understand their organizational communications needs and ensure we’re effectively reaching them through relevant channels and methods.
This role is hybrid with the expectation to be in office 2 – 3 days per week. In-office days include rotating days between our three Aquarium campus locations in Baltimore (Candler building at 111 Market Place, main Aquarium building at 501 E. Pratt Street, and the Animal Care and Rescue Center at 901 E. Fayette St).
Partner closely with the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice Steering Committee and Director (new position) to integrate DEIJ efforts and learning topics into the overarching organizational communications strategy, supporting the organization’s ongoing learning and development.
Support any crisis/urgent communications efforts, serving as the internal coordinator for messaging to key audiences.
Preferred Knowledge & Skills:
The individual who will thrive in this position is a creative, driven, results-focused professional, who truly values the Aquarium’s commitment to our mission
