About the Job:
The Accounting Manager reports to the Controller, overseeing the accounting staff functions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Manage the Accounting Staff which currently entails eight (8) Staff Accountants, three (3) Construction Payables persons, and four (4) General Accounts Payable persons.
- Coordinate staff training including software, hardware and accounting related to property management.
- Ensure that all transactions are properly recorded according to current policies and procedures.
- Ensure that month and year end closing and reporting packages for their assigned entities are completed in a timely manner.
- Assist, as necessary, in the training of site personnel with respect to the recording of financial entries and data.
- Maintain cash control for their assigned entities including monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts and periodic reconciliation of other staff accountants bank accounts.
- Be familiar with all terms of the agreements with third parties regarding financial and compliance issues and the related deadlines, which must be met.
- Preparation of special reports and/or billings required by management or third-party entities.
- Performance of review of financial and operating data regarding proposed acquisitions.
- Preparation and updating of all necessary audit schedules quarterly, and providing any required assistance during the interim and final audit.
- Participation in all company required educational and team building activities.
- Must adhere to the required work schedule established by the company to promote efficient operations.
- Payroll responsibilities (Applies only to the Staff Accountant charged with this responsibility.)
- Deal with systems representative to insure proper operation thereof.
- Input data for management payroll.
- Train accounting clerk in the handling of hourly payroll and provide direction and review of work product, for this aspect of the payroll function.
- Prepare all required payroll reports including those for the audit.
- Prepare as required salaried employee's manual checks.
- Reconcile the payroll accounts monthly.
- Ensure all payroll reports required by the IRS for all entities are processed in a timely manner
- Insure timely distribution of checks to employees.
- Insure legal requirements for withholding and payment of garnishments, etc. are met.
- Attend Company sponsored events that relate to the development of the team, which, from time to time, may include overnight stays at locations away from the employee's home.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word and Outlook.
- To provide a familiarity with the types of documentation and services specific thereto.
- Maintain work pace appropriate to given workload.
- Ability to perform complex or varied tasks.
- Relate to others beyond giving and receiving instructions.
- Be a team player.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or higher
- Have formal training in accounting.
- Have some real estate accounting background.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Operate computer and office equipment
- Work is primarily sedentary in nature
