The NCAI Finance Department pursues organizational excellence by strengthening our financial stability, pursuing revenue growth, and providing reliable reporting. The department oversees financial operations to ensure the organization is best positioned to achieve our mission and serve our members. The Staff Accountant will contribute to the efforts of the Finance Department by ensuring excellence in the day-to-day accounting functions and partnering with the Chief Financial Officer and other key staff to ensure effective financial management.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the primary duties of the Staff Accountant include but are not limited to:

  • Calculating, posting, and verifying financial data for use in maintaining accounting records
  • Accounts payable batching, coding, posting invoices and processing checks or ach payments
  • Accounts receivable invoicing, posting payments, daily deposits and electronic filing
  • Prepare and/or assist with journal vouchers, cash disbursements and cash receipts
  • Control vendor data, including obtaining and maintaining W9's, and tracking 1099 expenses
  • Use accounting software to generate and distribute program reports as required and requested by departments and external funders
  • Monitor cash balances and initiates initial steps to transfer funds
  • Process interfund entries to reconcile payments between internal programs and cash accounts
  • Participate in the preparation of annual audits
  • Coordinate with the Chief Financial Officer and Controller to meet the organization's goals
  • Assist with cash and revenue controls at conferences
  • Serve as the primary contact for vendor inquiries
  • Other functions as directed by management
  • Travel is required to three conferences annually.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ability to correctly prepare tax reports.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software
  • Ability to meet monthly deadlines on a consistent basis.
  • Strong Microsoft proficiency, particularly Microsoft Excel;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;
  • Ability to take direction and work independently, taking initiative within areas of responsibility;
  • Positive attitude and ability to adjust to changing priorities and growing responsibilities;
  • Ability to contribute in a team-oriented environment;
  • Precision and attention to detail; and,
  • A passionate commitment to the mission of NCAI and the humility to take on all tasks assigned with a cheerful attitude and a desire to contribute to the team.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years staff accountant experience or equivalent
  • Experience working with MIP accounting software
  • Understanding of GAAP in a non-profit organization;
  • Experience working with federal grants;

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Compensation: This position starts with annual salary of $52,000-70,000, commensurate with experience and educational qualifications.

Work Hours & Environment: This is a Forty (40) hours per calendar week position, fifty-two (52) weeks per calendar year; provided, however, during the time periods leading up to, during, and immediately following NCAI conferences and similar events, involvement up to Sixty (60) hours per week may be required.

This position is remote eligible.
